Would a 1060 be sufficient for VR?

ramencupofjoy

I'm curious if opting for a slightly lower-end graphics card so I have a big enough budget to upgrade some other components in my build is a justifiable move.
I am 100% fine with turning down the graphics to get a higher framerate, it's what I usually do anyways.

1060 6GB would be borderline,

I'd personally go with a 1070 or 1070TI

What framerates should I expect with a 1060 on lower settings in, say, SUPERHOT or VRCHAT?

VRChat I get above 100 all the time.

Depends on the games. For games like Superhot, Job Simulator, VRChat, SPT, and Beat Saber you'd be fine. However if you want to play games like DOOM, Fallout 4, Raw Data, and Arizona Sunshine I would HIGHLY recommend a 1070 or 1070ti. I used to run my Vive with a 780ti (which is more or less equivalent to a 1060 3gb card) and it took a LOT of sacrifices to run any of the demanding games. For Fallout 4 VR I had everything turned down to the minimum with no SS and I was STILL getting a LOT of reprojection. Downtown boston was something crazy like 30% reprojection.

Going to a 1080 I now run games at max with 130% SS and get almost no reprojection in anything. Everything's more clear, smooth, and overall a WAY better experience. If you can't afford a 1080, I would SERIOUSLY recommend spending the extra $100 to get a 1070. It's definitely worth it.

Seriously I love my Vive, but given the choice of (1060 + Vive) or (1070 + Rift) I would take the rift all day long.

My friend runs VR with a 1060 3GB and it's fine.

What is actually supposed to go here? Some people put their specs, others put random comments or remarks about themselves or others, and there are a few who put cryptic statements.
