Help me with GDC EXP Beast e-GPU, and which one is better

Go to solution Solved by TheSLSAMG,

I would probably go Galax over Colorful simply because it is smaller and will be more compact and easy to deal with. Both are fine cards though. Also, keep in mind that you will have to use an older driver version or install a modified driver as NVIDIA have pulled PCIe hotplug support for 10 series cards from more recent drivers. Driver version 372.54 should work. You will also need a power supply. You can use a normal ATX compliant unit or a Dell DA2, but you will need extra cables that aren't included if you use the DA2.

I believe the difference between the v8.0 and v8.4d is that the v8.4d is ExpressCard 2 compatible (which doesn't matter for you since you're using mPCIe.)

So, i have a 2014 MSI GE62 2QD Apache notebook, and i need a more powerfull GPU, so i decided to use mPCIe e-gpu, but i have a few questions first. so, can i connect a GTX 1060 3GB to the GDC EXP Beast , and which gtx 1060 gpu is better, this one: Colorful GeForce iGameGTX1060 U-TOP-3G (https://en.colorful.cn/contents/108/147.html), or this one: GALAX GeForce® GTX 1060 OC 3GB (http://www.galax.com/en/graphics-card/10-series/galax-geforce-gtx-1060-oc-3gb.html), can i connect those types of GTX 1060 to the e-gpu, and the last questions, what is the difference between GDC EXP Beast v8.0 and GDC EXP Beast v8.4d?

Thank You.

The Colorful looks cooler, but it has a lower base and boost clock if you ignore the turbo boost option. The Galax needs only one 6 pin though.

would it lose a lot of fps without the latest driver? and what is the worst scenario, and the avarage scenario (minimum fps lost)? thank you

The latest driver wouldn't allow the card to function. The GPU would throw a Code 43 in Device Manager. You wouldn't lose much as far as framerate goes though, but some new games might not run as well or refuse to start without the newer drivers.
