Terminal "Error"

Go to solution Solved by DrMacintosh,

Well if running disk utility did not help I would direct you to enter recovery mode.

You can do this by holding down CMD+R when the machine is booting up (before you see the Apple logo)

You should be greeted by a UI that looks like this

macos-high-sierra-recovery-mode-reinstall.jpg.3cb3a2150a21761b3e6dcc0367073e61.jpg

From here you can reinstall your operating system while keeping all of your data where it is. If this still causes issues, that means there is software that you have installed on your Mac that is causing the issue.

If that is the case you might need to get your hands on another Mac, from a friend or something, to make a Bootable USB Installer of macOS (which can be obtained from the App Store) and use it to erase the entire drive, including the recovery partition and install macOS fresh.

How to make a bootable installer: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201372

Hi everyone!

Can someone help me with this issue? It's very frustrating that I can't use Terminal, I just buyed this Macbook Pro 15" Early 2011 second hand, and from day 1 it had OS X Yosemite, and I updated it to MacOS High Sierra, it didn't work before, I thinked it was an installation error of Terminal.... and now I can't find anything that can solve this issue, everytime I open Terminal this image pops up... can't add any commands or so.

Thanks kindly if anyone is smart enough to help me!

Are you launching terminal directly from the Utilities folder? Have there been any changes to your ~/.profile that would be causing Terminal to try to launch using an incorrect argument?

Run Disk Utility and run first aid on the drive.

Its probably that simple.

Your computer is rebelling. Reinstall the operating system and then sudo command it to make you a sandwich. If it obeys, it’s all good.

In the "recovery mode" Terminal worked, cuz I had to type csutril disable for cDock, and after I rebooted to normal, it didn't work again, well... honestly I don't want to re-install the OS cuz It would take a long time to get my apps back and stuff, changes to the /user I didn't make, beside the name change.... it didn't work at first glance when I tried to use it, i thinked it was a corrupt cmd, but it wasen't .. I made a new user, still didn't work... so I'm kinda hopeless now.

Can’t you just bring it to an Apple store or something?

Why? This is a software issue, there is nothing they can do that the end user cannot.
