The best one to get would be sewing machine oil

Correct

WD-40 contains a stoddard solvent which is not a lubricant... It would clean things, help dissolve gunk, and has a lubricating property to it but the lubricating properties do not last at all.

WD-40 was originally designed to displace water from missle parts to prevent corrosion. In fact the WD in the name means Water Displacement; the 40 means it was the 40th formula they tried. It's a great solvent for loosening up stuck and rusted fasteners but has too low of a viscosity for effective lubricating and it's too volatile to last long; it quickly evaporates.

Far better lubricants would be sewing machine oil (similar to 3 in1 oil) or Ti-Flow. I prefer Tri-Flow myself. Most hardware stores and home centers carry it. It is available in various sized spray cans and squeeze bottles. I keep a small spray can and a small squeeze bottle of it at home. The squeeze bottle has a small tube that can be placed in the nozzle for pin point accuracy (it's so handy for me, I just keep the tube in the bottle all the time).

As mentioned WD-40 wouldn’t be the best option something like a heavy weight silicone lubricant like this would be a good option. Just check to see if your fans can be opened or allow for access to the bearing.

WD-40 wouldn't just be a not a good lubricant, it would actually pretty quickly worsen your fans' performance since its dissolving and cleaning properties will make dirt and gunk clog up.

+1 on sewing machine oil
