Raid 0 HDD

Socky

I'm not going to go SSD until it is a must. I'm looking at raid 0 for a cheaper solution, also with higher storage capacity. I realize this will be worse for the lifetime of the HDD but I really don't have anything important, plus I have a Raid 1 backup computer. I'm looking for a performance drive like a WD Black 1TB but the price for it is roughly $20 more than a 1TB Seagate Barracuda, and $30 more than a WD Blue. I'm wondering if the Barracuda's are fine in Raid 0, same with the WD Blue. I'm really looking at the WD Blue, but I'm not really informed about Seagate drives.

....so what do you want help with?

Sorry if I didn't make it clear. Are WD Blue drives and Seagate Barracuda's okay for Raid 0?

Yes they are but you wont get much increase in them as for the maximum performance boost they need to be the exact same drives. Pick youselfs up an SSD and use your HDD to store files. biggest performance boost over $$$ you will be able to achieve

As long as the drives are the same, yea you can put them in RAID 0. But honestly, these days HHD's in RAID 0 is basically pointless with SSD's out there. How much would you be spending on the RAID 0 drives? I assume maybe 60 bucks each? For 120 bucks, get an SSD! You will be sooo much happier.

I had RAID 0 Velociraptors, and thought it was ok, boy was I wrong.

The only issue with SSD's right now is the hole in my pocket after getting a 1TB SSD.

Edit: I need the storage capacity since I have a lot of games on steam and I do a lot of video editing. Yes I can use the backup computer as a storage device, but it is not fast enough as well as I take my computer to other areas.

Why 1 TB SSD? buy a ~256 for OS games and programs, and then a data drive? I run a 128 and I make it work no problem. Granted I have a few TB worth of hhd's as well for mass storage. But an SSD will make you happier, a lot happier. lol.

I kinda have an issue with having anything less than 500gb on a single drive. In my computer right now I have a 160gb 5400rpm HDD as a boot (I'm an idiot I know) and it is too slow and I have no storage space. I do however have 1 750gb Seagate HDD that is nearly maxed out and a 500gb WD Blue drive which is half way though. I use a lot of storage and maybe in about a year I'll get an SSD because right now to me in my personal needs it is not worth it. Anyways I chose the Seagate Barracuda 1TB 64mb cache. Now a new question, Can I have an SSD Cache for a Raid 0?

Perfectly fine, RAID doesn't degrade your drives' life either.
