where are all the FLAT ultrawide monitors.... (flat is justice?)

i did a bunch of searching and the only monitor i found that is 1440p, 21:9, faster than 60Hz and NOT curved is the LG - 34UB88-P

why is it so hard to find non-curved ultrawide monitors jesus christ. if anyone else knows other monitors that fit these specs please tell me.

I see what you mean but there surely is an extremely good reason that nearly all producers of this spec monitor make them curved. Like I dunno, its much more useful to the eyes.

Because things displayed near the edges of these long monitors will be compressed horizontally and look weird. Being curved offsets some, if not most of the effect.

 

Flat is justice has another use as well

Yeah same. I like my 29UM59A-P which is 2560x1080 IPS 60-75Hz but I want a new 34in 1440p without a curve. When I get the next gen 80 series I will want one.

on top of all that, if u just look at an obviously straight line on a curved monitor, that line will looked curved. i will never understand why people would put up with that.

That's what happen if you move your head while using the monitor. Curved ones work best if you turn your head rather than moving.

I know is there. The main point is to make every pixel the same distance to the viewer's eyes. Heavily curved ones are best left for TVs, but not not the sligthly curved ones.

if i did speadsheets and word docs all day i might appreciate that reasoning. but i play games and watch videos and movies a lot. when i see a straight line i want it to look straight. and i want my image to not be distorted in general. thus im not going to buy a curved monitor at this time

Buy a TV? Jk. Have you ever looked at the side view of the 49in Samsung model lol. I can't bare to get that. But I think it's needed that point. I also heard either Asus or LG was doing the same as Samsung did with the 49in but use 2x 2560x1440p making 5120x1440p.

Curved monitor is 10-20% viewing angle (only in 34"+ panels, makes no sense in 27" and yes, there are those on the market) and 80-90% coolness factor. Simply put, they look awesome.

 

With that said, in the end there is theory and there is practical approach.

 

Theoretically I could take a ruler and start seeking dostortions on my 1900R 34" ultrawide but in reality I launch a game or a high quality movie and they all look fantastic. When gaming I sit close enough to immerse myself and take advantage of slightly better viewing angle and when watching a movie I sit far enough so that the curvature does not bother me at all.

 

And yes, when it's mounted on the wall it commands attention with its badassery.

It will look good on a monitor arm as well as on the stand but with the latter I'd recommend bigger desk.

 

This is my personal opinion but if you want a 34" ultrawide on the included stand then I'd recommend desk at least 60" wide and with about 25-27" depth.

 

It all depends on your setup of course. If someone puts their rig on the desk, obviously it needs compensation in size.

While I'm not a fan of ultra wide, for some reason they're also forcing curved panels and specially on 16:9 27" or so for example. Like why...

Same reason they slap RGB and tempered glass wherever they can. Because it looks good (to some people). 

 

Though as a fan of ultrawides I don't particularly like 27" curved screens as well. It's like they pretend to be something they're not.

Thanks for doing the research OP, I'm sitting on a 60hz 34UM95 and was looking for a better refresh rate, will get 34UB88-P.

 

To everyone, the monitor should never be curved, if you are buying into that idea, you are a simple content consumer who don't understand how things work behind the scenes.

I own one of these Samsung 34inch flat monitor but refresh rate do not go that high. i'm ok with it as i don't do any gaming. just development.

Mine is G-sync monitor.

These won't have height adjustment. so i use Monitor arm instead.
