Vega 64 or GTX 1080

I have a system using a 1700 @3.6 GHZ and my monitor is an AOC Freesync one. I was wondering if it would be better to buy a Vega 64 when the prices go back to MSRP, or a GTX 1080 at MSRP. Thanks.

the performance is pretty comparable, and you'll want to take advantage of free sync

1080, because V64 isnt going back to MSRP. Not until next gen Nvidia cards come smashing in.

I personally think that it will return eventually. Even now, it is at $680 compared to the $1200 it was a few months ago so you can see the prices are falling.

$680 isnt all that far away from 1080ti, a faster card that's fast enough to not need adaptive sync at all because it cranks enough frames out.

i would get the GTX 1080 because it's a better card, faster in most games...uses less than half the power, meaning much less heat produced, which turns into less fan noise, quieter card, better temps, longer lifespan etc.

Another vote for the 1080. I wouldn't put to much thought into free sync honestly. I've been running 1070's SLI on an Asus VG278q (free sync model) and have never once noticed screen tearing at 144hz refresh rate. Most games I'm getting well over 200fps as well. I do want to get a GSync monitor at some point to see if there is any advantage but I really don't think there will be.
