My 8700k Overclock

Hello, 

 

I'm quite new to overclocking and have just acquired an 8700k.

 

Currently I've Oc'd it to the current settings:

 

Running at 5.1 Ghz

AVX Offset : -2

Vcore : 1.335

LLC : Mode 2

 

Stock IHS with No Delid.

 

Idle: 35-40

Gaming: Highest temp recorded was 80

 

I just wanted to get an insight in to whether this is a safe OC.

 

Rest of my system:

 

MSI M5 Z370

MSI GTX 1080

16GB DDR4 @ 3200 Mhz

500W Corsair PSU

My i7 7700K hits 80C when rendering a video only with the same exact Vcore, LLC, (for named Vdroop) AVX -2. However mine is delided. Also under EVGA CLC cooler.

Delid is easy to do I'd recommend doing that to drop it. Remember to sure liquid metal.

 

What are you doing or program you are using to hit those high temps?

It's fine for gaming but under synthetic it probably will throttle

Delid is easy to do I'd recommend doing that to drop it. Remember to sure liquid metal.

I was using Cinebench and the intel stresser

 

Oddly Rocket league makes me hit around 80. Pubg / Gta runs between 60-70. I was reading up on it and I kept seeing a reappearing comment that coffee lake runs hot.

 

Thanks for the recommendation on the delid. I was looking into this, I was looking at purchasing the rocket ihs as the reviews seem pretty decent

I used the rocket so I would also recommend that. I use ciinebench, IBT, adia 64. To stress test temps never went above 64C @ 5.0ghz after the delid. Though only when I render is when I see temps in 80c. I don't fell comfortable when rendering with those temps but if I turn AVX up it'd take longer to render so I leave it.

60c I get in COD WWII only. PUBG around 47c.

Lets heat it up.  Realbench...if that does not throttle it, Prime95....if not that believe it or not, there are hotter.

 

Or if you are not into PC abuse, just use it like it is.  Keep an eye on temps for a while in your normal usage case.

80s are nothing to worry about if its under control, stays stable and doesnt hit high peaks. Would be worried about 90s though.
