Phantek Enthoo Evolv CPU

Agonizel

Hi community,

So I will be building a PC for my brother in-law in a few weeks/months. I'm already scouting for parts.
I consider going for the Phantek Enthoo Evolv case with an 280mm or 360mm AIO, but I can't quite figure out where to install it in which configuration.
If there's no solution I'll either go for Air Cooling or another case, but I think he'll really like this case so...

Anyway, give me your thoughts or your facts!

Thanks

That case has AWFUL air flow and you shouldn't buy it unless you're planning on getting one of those custom front panels. Get an Enthoo Pro M TG or a Meshify C instead. Hell, even a P400S or an S340 Elite.

The entire lineup of Phanteks Enthoo Evolv cases, no matter the size, have bad airflow. When it comes to cases, usually looks good = bad airflow.

Haha true, altough I think the H500P Mesh (Gunmetal) looks amazing but it has good airflow :) What case do you propose ranging up to 200$?

Thanks for your answers. The budget allows for more "premium-priced" cases, so I also considered the Coolermaster Mastercase MC500t. But I remember those hexagonal holes in the enthoo evolv, I hope i can lay my hands on one

apart from @orbitalbuzzsaw's recommendations, Fractal's R6 is also nice (not so much the price tag though)

I only heard good things about that case, but it looks like a sausage to me :b. I'll see if my bro will hopefully like it though...

I imagine something with a 2600X/8600k and a GPU equivalent to a 1060 or 1070 (the PC is in a few weeks/months).
M.2 nvme for the system, SSD for games and enough HDD storage for a collection of multimedia content (movies, music,...)

Sorry, I don't mean to hurt the owners of the R6! As I said, it's case that was praised and I respect it.

Hahas I dont own it, but if everything goes according plan next year I will own one! Looks are subjective however, and to each their own! But anything compared to a sausage is just straight up funny I cant be offended.

My current case looks like a sausage!

Anyways your best bet under $100 is the Enthoo Pro M TG. Id say Meshify C but depending on the GPU you end up picking, it might be too long for a front mount AIO (a Strix card for example) and the Enthoo Pro M at least allows 360 rads top or front mounted, and is longer by 3" so you wont run into that issue regardless.

There's a lot of good cases in the $100-200 range, Cooler Master H500p Mesh, Corsair 460x (570x exists too but overall its not as good of a value as the 460x), The Sausage Define R6, The NZXT H700i (over priced but its otherwise still a good case) The Lain Li PC-O11 (when it eventually releases soon) The be quiet! Dark Base 700 just to name a few ;)

I have a i7-6800k watercooled with a 280mm radiator in my Evolv. You could mount the radiators (280mm or 360mm will both work) on the top or at the front, but when mounting at the front, you will have to remove the drive bays (You could keep a single one in there when using 280mm).

On top of that, basically like what the others have said, it has pretty bad airflow. I have my radiator at the front as intake and that makes the gpu pretty warm.

That's a bummer, it's really beautiful though.

The H700i should match his taste and the airflow intake/exhaust looks more promising than the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv.

I've got the Coolermaster H500P Mesh, I don't want to build twice in the same case :)

As much as I love my Evolv ATX TG, I have to second this. It's a very well built, good looking case but the airflow is abysmal (5-10C drop in temps from removing front panel) and the aftermarket panels ruin the aesthetic since no one seems to be willing to mill a rectangular hole in them instead of weird shapes.

H700i has similar airflow to the Define R6, which is good because both NZXT and Fractal understand that you need a certain amount of volume in front of the fan blades to be able to pull air into (they also mount the fans on the inside of the case, which helps even more)

I wish they would have made an H700d (i for intelligent, d for dumb) and get rid of the "smart hub" crap. It's a $70+ add on most users would rather do without, and would make the case MUCH more competitive and recommendable.

Yes, I just watched Gamers Nexus review the other day and how he showed just how useless that included hub can be. Luckily, the budget isn't a problem... which is usually THE problem :D
