Hi, I’m building my first pc and I’m looking into power supply’s right now and I came across the EVGA 550W G2 on sale for 70 dollar. I have two questions. One is this power supply good? ( by good I mean is it quiet? Will it blow my pc up? Etc) and I know when I look for a PSU I have to look for continuous power output but no where on the EVGA website say anything about continuous power. Only total power. Are total power and continuous power the same? 865739D9-95B2-43A2-BE80-083FDE5766E3.jpeg.c9f7dfdfdaa8947bddf6a88f18414adc.jpeg

It looks to be a Tier 1 on the PSU Tier List:

G2 is a good unit other than being loud. You probably need to look for something else.

A better way to look at this would be to list your system specs.  That way we can tell if you have enough power supply to run your system (chances are you do, 550W is plenty these days).

Also yes, it is a good PSU.

If you're buying a system where it makes sense to buy anything more than a CXM, you won't notice the noise over the CPU cooler, GPU etc. Other than that the G2 is a great unit - I have the 850W version in my system and it's never had an issue.

CPU: Core i9 12900K || CPU COOLER : Corsair H100i Pro XT || MOBO : ASUS Prime Z690 PLUS D4 || GPU: PowerColor RX 6800XT Red Dragon || RAM: 4x8GB Corsair Vengeance (3200) || SSDs: Samsung 970 Evo 250GB (Boot), Crucial P2 1TB, Crucial MX500 1TB (x2), Samsung 850 EVO 1TB || PSU: Corsair RM850 || CASE: Fractal Design Meshify C Mini || MONITOR: Acer Predator X34A (1440p 100hz), HP 27yh (1080p 60hz) || KEYBOARD: GameSir GK300 || MOUSE: Logitech G502 Hero || AUDIO: Bose QC35 II || CASE FANS : 2x Corsair ML140, 1x BeQuiet SilentWings 3 120 ||

I have this in 750w and the one I have is not load at all. maybe try a higher watt PSU of same type to solve noise. I love the G2 PSU's

I would recommend a possible change. from the reviews I have seen the RX 580 AMD card is more powerfull the the 1060 3Gb and still preforms faster compared to the 1060 6gb variant.
Also a bit cheaper.

A 550G2 is a steal for that price, however it isn't too quiet.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

Its OK.

Nothing wrong electrically.

But fan RPM isn't great, that's one of the worse highe rend ones.

And decent PSU manufacturers usually mean Continuous power when they specify their PSU.

No.

Why doesn't this Fairy Tale die?? Why do people come up with this?
THat can only happen if we talk about two completely different units - for example HX750 (Platinum) vs. RM650x...

With the same Plattform, the same heatsinks, about the same efficiency and the same load, both will be equally noisy or the higher wattage one will be more noisy...
