Will an I5-3470 bottleneck a 1060?

I cant really find any benchmarks on the I5 3470 but does anyone know if it'll bottleneck the 1060 massively or not at all? If so should i upgrade to an I5-3570k if it helps to remove the cpu bottleneck?

thanks

It'll do fine. If you're going to upgrade, wait for 4Q18 and Intel's octa-cores or go with Ryzen+.

No, not massively. The 3470 and 1060 is a fine pair.

It should work fine, plus those pc's are a dime a dozen in the refurbished market. If you already have that setup leave it be, but if your buying something then aim for the 4th gen intel i5, and wait for a great deal on fleabay.

a little bit sometimes depending on the games, you would get slightly higher minimum FPS with a stronger CPU but overall it's a good match, i would do it!

You will see bottleneck on multiplayer games & bad optimized games.

It'll mostly be fine. I ran a 780ti with a stock 3570k where both parts are within 10% of the 1060 and 3470 respectively, and I had no issues with bottlenecks. That information is almost 2 years old, but for some "legacy" AAA games like The Witcher 3, Battlefield 1, and Far Cry 4 I had no problems with a CPU bottleneck.

Main System: EVGA GTX 1080 SC, i7 8700, 16GB DDR4 Corsair LPX 3000mhz CL15, Asus Z370 Prime A, Noctua NH D15, EVGA GQ 650W, Fractal Design Define R5, 2TB Seagate Barracuda, 500gb Samsung 850 Evo
Secondary System: EVGA GTX 780ti SC, i5 3570k @ 4.5ghz, 16gb DDR3 1600mhz, MSI Z77 G43, Noctua NH D15, EVGA GQ 650W, Fractal Design Define R4, 3TB WD Caviar Blue, 250gb Samsung 850 Evo

You definitely need an upgrade in 2018. I have the same CPU with 8 gigs of RAM. I can be on the lowest settings for BF1 and that low fps icon will still show up, so it is a terrible CPU to have in 2018. Upgraded from a 660 to a 1060 and I was not even properly impressed with the performance. People are getting 100+ fps on GTA V with a 1060, and im stuck getting 50 fps sometimes.

The 3470 was ok 2 years ago, but now its getting near to obsolete and has a pretty big bottleneck on the 1060. It's time to upgrade to 8th gen (which i'm doing currently)

That's not at all true. Unless he's going for a high refresh rate, the 3470 is still an okay pairing with a 1060.

I'm running mine with a normal 60hz monitor and I can say the cpu is bad today. Sure you can play overwatch,cs:go and stuff like that no problem. But things like BF1, and pubg dont often get high framerates. Not sure about the problem with GTA V, but the cpu just cant handle that game when there are a couple of people on the server. Its a 4-core processor  which is just not up to scratch today. I've had this 3470 for a couple of years now and last year was when it started becoming obsolete

Almost no games will use more than four cores, so I don't know where you got it into your head that a quad core isn't up to scratch.

It's true that in the most demanding games on the market, especially multi-player ones where you can't control the physics settings, it's going to struggle, but that's got nothing to do with its core count. The latest Intel CPU's have much higher single core performance. A third gen i5 isn't going to MASSIVELY bottleneck a 1060 (which was his question), although you'll see some performance hits in some games.

Minimums won't be great with a 4c/t Ivy Bridge chip. 6c/t is needed for 60+ at all times

He'll be perfectly fine for 60fps gaming, all he needs is to close side/background applications to focus the system resources on the game.

And obviously adjust the in-game settings accordingly.

Yeah but multiplayer with friends is a thing so people need Discord and stuff.

Whoever told you that is sorely mistaken. Almost no games will use more than four cores, and chat takes up very little processing power.
