Ok, just to be clear, i love this place. But that's not going to stop me from posting this.

You may all know that there are subforums. But the whole idea of posting there before you dump in general discussion doesn't work too well.

Lets take this example, i posted about wondering how i can remove a scratch from a monitor

Anyway, i only got this "very helpful reply"

image.png.c6cc9e4fe8ff914f937ad7ce23dca6f1.png

And i recon if i would've posted this in general discussion then inevitably moved to displays i would have gotten more than this mere shitpost, i made a graph to show replies and views die down after a thread is moved to the right category

image.png.2938320be8fd7dfa0777520ad38231b5.png

But why is this, well i think its because general discussion is on the top, so people will always look at the posts there instead of the bottom of the page

Im just asking, please for this to be fixed somehow so i don't have to resort to thread dumping and or reposting the same thing.

Best of myself(1000th post)

It's not because it's moved out of general discussion, it's because it does not appear on the column to the right, which displays the latest posts, anymore.

If you move General Discussion away from the top, either another subforum will become the dumping ground or everyone will still post/reply to general discussion more because it's not a specialised subforum.

Pretty much regardless of what you do, people won't post in the right subforums and most people that are replying to topics will only look at recent topics. Most people either can't be bothered or simply can't find the right subforum, so just post in General Discussion.

PS: https://linustechtips.com/main/forum/81-feature-suggestions/ (this thread kind of proves that point. There's too many subforums IMO)

That is not a proper graph since it doesn't have the X axis.

And not everyone does it like you describe. Some people read only new content (perhaps even only once) and some browse specific sections and only read there.

The last one is where you'll get most help anyway, since the people who know about monitors will most likely also help with your monitor related problem.

As stated above most people only look at the recent topic tab on the right, including myself I would follow threads but too many are posted in the subjects I am versed in or interested in to make it worth while.

As for your monitor my friend "fixes" them with things like vaseline oddly enough

Totally agree with @Oshino Shinobu. I pretty much only look at the topics that have just been posted and show up on the right. I'll occasionally dive into the Off Topic section or Phones, but other than that, it's just recent stuff.

You don't have to thread dump. You could simply have patience and wait for someone to reply, bumping the post when appropriate. It's highly possible that some posts either aren't interesting to anyone, or no one has a good answer, like with the monitor scratches. You also don't state what model monitor it is, how deep the scratch is, where the scratch is, if the panel is gloss or matte, etc etc. So I'm not surprised you didn't get that helpful of an answer, when the post wasn't that helpful at describing the issue.

It's not a problem with the forum. The forum is fine.

Now this is shitposting.

Yup thats why you gotta do what you gotta do, post in the mains and hope its break time or something.

Also on a side not, about top of forum is busy stuff.

Its human nature to go to the closest option whether its a train door at either end of the platform, or the nearest forum category.

Humans are lazy, its really that simple.

Another analyst of human behaviour. A quick one.

People go to what they see. In driving if you look at the guard rail you will drive towards it.

So with the forums, when they log in they see the top 4 or 5 categories, and they instictively post there without any thought.

Even the best of us do that.

Then just put general discussion at the bottom
