But, can it run DX12 titles? Why I'm on 10.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Locked down as in, more secure than any other version of Windows.

I don't play any DX12 exclusive titles. Even then, Vulkan API is on the same level as DX12 and runs fine on 7.

You can get a 2TB for like $50.

Eh, it works fine for me, and is much more stable and easier to use than the installs of 8 or 8.1 I've had the absolute horror of attempting to use. And I run my OS and games off separate disks so I don't notice any disk problems... but then my system is pretty beefy. But IMO it's even nicer than Windows 7, except for the settings and half a control panel thing.

Make you an offer, get Vulkan titles to stop screen tearing on my HTPC, and I'll agree. Until then DX11/12 win.

Priorities mate. Very few of use can simply choose to buy, we have to choose what not to buy in order to buy the other thing we want. I don't go to a movie theater and demand to be allowed in to see a movie for free, because I chose to spend it on hardware.

As my daddy always said, "if you wanna play, you gotta pay"

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Of course I do. You can do a clean install of Windows 10, for free. That will help, especially if you run in gaming mode. (which is set up to help older hardware)

But the largest improvement will come from a storage upgrade. Not free.

my problem is that i don't have anything to put the files on and i don't want to lose anything in the transition to win10, seeing as how there is years of family photos on said hard drive.

Use a flash drive, go to any event involving technology and they literally hand them out as swag. Where most of mine come from.

Do you want to fix the problem, or be stuck in it? Your PC so your choice which you enjoy more.

Your responsibility to gather facts and show her why it is you need to make changes to the laptop. Sell it as experience that could help you later on make money. Which, is actually how that works. People pay over 100 bucks an hour to have other people do something as simple as a fresh install of an OS.

HTPC runs a 980ti, have had a topic down in displays that has all the info so as to not derail this topic. My fault on that.

Totally agree, I was mowing yards and shoveling snow before I was old enought o be able to have an account with LTT.
