CatCoin releasing today

I know a lot of you didn't like the idea of DogeCoin, but there's a coin coming to rival it.

Bitcoin Talk thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=380130.0

I'll be mining them for a while when they come out until they get too difficult to mine. Only because I can see it getting a lot of hype the same as DOGE did.

I'm pretty sure it comes out 11PM GMT 23/12/2013 which is tonight.

PoW algorithm: Scrypt
Premine: ABSOLUTELY ZERO!
Block reward: 50 CAT
Block time: 10 minutes
Retarget: 2,016 blocks
Starting difficulty: 0.00024414
Max supply: 21 million
Reward halving interval: 210,000 blocks

As you can see the difficulty is low, I can see it going to 10 before sunrise on the 24th.

No thank you ill just stick with litecoin

I suppose Litecoin is safer, but mining these new coins and waiting for them to gain value is pretty profitable.

Depends what coin you choose, I found LottoCoin was pre-mined so I just stopped mining.

CatCoin isn't pre-mined.

Or you can get a job and use your computer for gaming or work. & when it's not being used unplug it so you lower your powerbill to equate the money savings.

I can't save £100 by turning my PC off for 3 nights.

I caught DogeCoin when it was pretty new and made £100 for leaving my PC on.

...why catcoin? Kittycoin sounds nicer or Grumpcoin if they want to capitalize on a may may.

I will say it's much more appealing than dogecoin. A fair launch, no premine, block rewards that don't start absurdly high, and a starting difficulty... The general list of things you look for in a new coin appear to be there. Unfortunately it offers nothing outside of it's novelty. The block time and retarget are to long for it's own good. It's a direct clone of Bitcoin but using Scrypt.

Personally, I'd expect this to flop with an immediate or very early 51% attack and multiple forks from massive farms solo mining. Pools will get streaks of orphan blocks for a few days until the difficulty increases as they will be unable to compete in hashrate against solo farms and private pools. Since it's following Bitcoin configs, the difficulty adjustment will be set every 2016 blocks with a goal time of 10 minutes per block with retargets every 2 weeks. Far too long for any non-established/separate blockchain alt coin.

It might be worth looking at after a the initial "attack" settles down and miners are able to join in without wasted time and orphan blocks. I'd stick to my gut with this one and say no long term, but potential profits for quick pump and dump. People will be expecting the pump and dump, so be on your toes to catch it when it happens.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Users cannot, and will not securely manage key material. Most users can't and the ones that can, wont.

Ask me about Bitcoin, Litecoin, Crypto-Currencies, and/or Mining them.

I might mine it for shits and giggles. If I can get a pizza out of it and some Pepsi, it was worth it. :P

That's assuming it hits an exchange with a value higher than the time spent mining. It might get attacked to the point where no one bothers to fix it. If that happens, all time invested will be wasted and have costed you both in terms of power usage, but also in lost profitable coin mining.

Most coins never get picked up by an exchange, instead they fade away as a failed experimental coin.

Maybe, but who knows. The internet is made of primarily 2 things; cats and porn.

Pump and dump is what I see these coins for, fast profit.

I'll keep an eye on this, I already ordered a reference 290 so I'll either go doge or cat, whatever returns the highest incidental profit (dumping it not holding it)

I am impelled not to squeak like a grateful and frightened mouse, but to roar...

Be careful with this one guys.

The market for new Alt coins is becoming bearish before a coin is even launched.

With everyone wanting to dump the coin, there will be no one willing to pump it. Even if a pump occurs, it will may be short lived and pass you by quickly.

Be fearful when others are greedy, and greedy when others are fearful.

I thought dogecoin was just a joke. It's actually real and now there is a catcoin? That's..... oddly hilarious.

If they go to 5 cents, I'll be ecstatic! 11k DOGE on a few Nvidia cards isn't a bad day. And that r280x! It's just insane!
