Upgrade from FX-9590

First time posting so if this should be in a different category please let me know. So as the title says I am looking to upgrade from an AMD FX-9590 as mine is no longer running stable at stock clocks. Temps never exceed 52C on CPU or GPU checking with Corsair Link, CAM, and task manager. It is auto volting to 1.55V at stock clock and freezes randomly even at idle. After turning off boost and underclocking to 4.5Ghz it no longer freezes. I am looking at upgrading to either an i3-8350k or an i5-8600k. Obviously I will need to get a CPU, motherboard, and DDR4 RAM. I am looking at the Asus ROG Strix Z370-F Gaming motherboard and two 8GB sticks of G. Skill Ripjaws V RAM with an XMP profile running 3000 MHz with 15-16-16-35 timings. I am in the US and looking to buy from either Newegg or Amazon. So my questions are, 1-Is it worth upgrading to an 8350k or 8600k or do I need to go to an 8700k for it to be worthwhile? 2-If it is worth going to an 8350k or 8600k which one would be a better choice considering my hardware? (listed below) 3-Do you think I have made good choices in motherboard and RAM based on my hardware? 4-Are there any other weak points in my system that you see? I really appreciate any replies and thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Motherboard- Gigabyte GA-990FX-Gaming

RAM- Corsair Vengeance Pro two 8GB sticks running at 1866MHz timings 10-11-10-30

GPU- MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G

GPU cooler- NZXT G12 with NZXT Kraken x42

PSU- Corsair RM850x

Case- Cooler Master HAF X

Boot drive- Samsung 950 Pro M.2 256GB

Other drives- WD Black 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s

WD Blue 500GB 7200RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s

almost anything is an upgrade from the fx series, just geta 8600k or somthing

8350k is a bad deal IMO, get an i5 8400 instead of that.

 

If you're willing to spend a bit more and OC, I would get an 8600k. Your build plan sounds good.

 

Side note, what do you do with the pc? Just game?

I mostly game but might get into some casual streaming. I have an LG 3840x2160 60Hz IPS panel monitor I got on the cheap that I do most of my gaming on but I also have an old Dell 1920x1080 60Hz TN panel monitor that came with a PC I bought a long long time ago. If GPU prices ever come down I will try to save up for a 1080ti as I got the 4K monitor after I bought the 1070.

yeah ryzen 7 2700x is probably your best choice rn

If you don't want to OC, go 8400+H310/B360 board. If you do and are willing to spend a bit more for it, 8600k+a decent Z370 board (Z370 Extreme4 perhaps) would probably be a good option.

Marginally really with the refresh.  I would rather get more cores for the same or a lower price considering intel releases a new chipset every other day

What GPU are you going to be running?  The 1070 will likely not show much difference between an R7 and i7.

Depends on the resolution you will be using.

 

At 1080p, yes.  At 4k though, the difference will remain pretty small.

Right now, Intel is ~5% faster in Gaming, and Ryzen is ~20% faster in productivity tasks. If you are interested in streaming, at higher bitrates (above 10mpbs) Intel tends to start dropping frames, whereas Ryzen doesn't really drop frames until 12 mbps. With a 1070 and at 4k, there are going to be very few scenarios where you'll be CPU limited. If you upgrade to a 1080ti eventually, Ryzen will be a bottleneck, but only for a few % (definitely not anything severe)

I'm not very familiar with bitrates or anything like that for streaming. Would that tie to my upload speed from my ISP?

I hate to say this, but Intel is more than 5% faster in games.  This is especially true for games that tend to push over 100 FPS.

 

In streaming they can be roughly equal, the Intel setups just need a bit more settings tuning (priority and thread pinning).

The difference is more noticeable at lower resolutions, but yes. Usually it's about 5-10%, but in certain titles such as GTA V the difference can be larger.

 

It is worth noting though that Anandtech found in their review of the Ryzen 2 series that the Ryzen 2 series performed better than Intel. Some people believe it's because of the Spectre patches they applied, but they're still looking into it so I'm not 100% certain as to what is going on.

Look at the baseline results.

R7 2700X cant really be overclocked for better game performance as the default turbo is already at the chips limit.

i7 can be pushed about 400mhz over its max boost speed.

I'd like to stay under $600 for RAM, CPU, and motherboard. Honestly given AMD's history vs Intel for the last 10 years I'm really nervous about going AMD again.

Not really, as long as your ISP upload speed is a bit faster than what you're trying to stream at it should be fine. Not an expert myself

Ryzen 1 vs Coffee lake pre-patch, sure, but Anandtech Ryzen 2 review is showing that with latest patches for spectre and meltdown, Intel's lead drops enough to get it into the 5% range. You can always just not apply the patches, but thats up to @xelasoccer

 

Personally, I'd take the 5% (or 10% without Intel patches) hit on gaming for a 20% boost in productivity, but if you are gaming 90+% of the time then you could justify the 8700k as well. At the end of the day, both AMD and Intel are competitive and you'll have a decent experience either way.

You mean utterly blowing them out of the water releasing $200 6 core/12 thread chips and $299 8 core/16 thread chips, forcing them to rush Coffee Lake and X299 to market?

When Ryzen came out intel was charging $1799 for 10 core CPUs, that's now down to $999.

Bit more money get you the top end Ryzen set up, Could just OC an R7 2700 for $30 less, up to you.

I7 8700 is the best value Coffee Lake chip if you're going intel for whatever reason

 

but then if you're after a 6 core/12 thread chip ryzen has you covered for $100 less.
