So I've recently overclocked my gtx 1060 FE with a 200 mhz offset of the core clock and a 600 mhz offset on the memory. Even with this boost i haven't seen a major difference in game. It isn't thermal throttling so I don't know why i am not seeing a performance increase.

My basic specs are:

i7 8700

16gb ram @ 2400mhz

gtx 1060 Fe with the OC i said

i play at 2560x1080

pls help thanks

What do you mean by you haven't seen a major increase?

In games overclocks are hard to tell really. What happens when you run Unigine Valley for example?

You'll also see maybe a 10% increase, so going from 50 to 55fps which really isn't noticeable.

Overclocking helps achieve higher frames to help get more out of your purchase, but in reality it isn't something you will notice unless you're running low frames to begin with and can get from 50 to 60 thanks to an OC.

For example an overclocked 1080ti will look amazing in benchmarks, but a stock 1080ti will feel exactly the same in games.

Watch your core clock on the graphics card using something like MSI Afterburner. You might not be thermal throttling, but could be limited. Boost works off of your GPU's themps, even 60c is enough to drop the frequency. If you're getting into the 80's, and your boost speed isn't much higher than your stock speed, you need to improve thermals.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

so the reason i say this is because my friend did an OC on his gigabyte 1060 g1 and he got 50% more frames in game so im wondering why i cannot achive the same

I think Nvidia was too overly cautious with Boost 3.0.

Something more is at play there, no overclock increases frames by 50%. Perhaps they had a better CPU?

ive monitoring it and i says im getting roughly 2 ghz while in game so im wondering why its not working

Try and reinstall the drivers, make sure their up to date.

I know i'm teaching you to suck eggs, but as I said no way should an overclock give you 50% more frames. GPU upgrades give you that.

you mean an upgrade not an overclock gives you that big of a difference?

If you're hitting 2GHz, it's working. Your friend could be at different setting, resolution, tons of variables. If your GPU utilization is staying around 100%, then it's not you.

i synced EVERY setting possible setting in game and he is getting 100 more fps than me. idfk what is going on!

I'm going to ask a few things to make sure, don't take them wrongly.

Do you have Vsync enabled?

Is your monitors refresh rate lower than his?

i dont have vsync on. though he has a 240hz gsync and mine is a 144hz no frame sync. he is hitting his refresh rate and even at the same resolution i am not.

Excuse me but what game is this? what settings and resolution? because it literally is impossible that 2 identical systems will give 100fps difference in the same game while supposedly all is fine with both.

rainbow 6 seige

1080p

maxed settings

i get roughly 100-120 fps and he gets 200-240 fps

i benchmarked it in game and it stayed the same

That doesn't sound correct. Benchmarks of the GTX 1060 on Rainbow Six Siege show your performance is expected.

It is technically impossible for a GTX 1060 to draw a constant steady 200~240fps in R6S at maxed settings on 1920x1080p, in fact it shouldn't do more than 120fps, so either his settings are not maxed or he has different hardware and you're wasting your time.

Memory timings are probably super loose. More clock does not always means more performance. Lower to around +400 and see what's up. Should bring the memory timings back down again. Not having access to memory volts is a real kicker too.

would overclocking the g1 make that much of a difference?

No, not even close. Max you'll ever see from an overclock is 20%, and that's looking back at older cards. The 1060 does a really good job of boosting on it's own. Really not much to be gained.

Your friend probably has it running at a lower resolution and doesn't realize it.

it appears that now its only clocking to 1880 mhz even at 55c. how do i change this? should i change voltage/ am i not understanding OCing?

Everyone has their own method of overclocking. Personally I max the core voltage, power limit, and temp limit in Afterburner. Let the card do it's thing. In Afterburner you can't add too much voltage, there's a software and hardware cap before any voltage able to harm the card.

But, the risk is yours.

If anyone asks you never saw me.
