Will cores help against gpu bottleneck

 

I have just learned about gpu and cpu bottlenecking and i was just wondering if cpu core count will help against gpu bottleneck

Depends. A 20core cpu at 1ghz will still suck for 1080p gaming with a GTX1080Ti

All relative as said above, you want as many cores with good single core performance at a decent clock speed.

If the GPU is the bottleneck you won't get any farther with a better CPU.

Yeah you are right. But I kinda think he means cpu Bottleneck actually and the answer is depends but tending towards no aswell :P

That's not the question, and it's not true that cores never matter. The cpu is more than the number of cores, but if everything else is the same a higher core count chip will perform better in some applications. Even if you only apply this to games, a quad core core 2 will perform better than a dual core core 2 in many games.

The way to look at performance is with benchmarks: gaming, photoshop, rendering, power consumption, calculus, cad... Taking a look at the tests you are interested in

Of course, but that's not the question. Benchmarks are relevant when making a purchase decision, but this is a theoretical matter.

Short answer is yes, but,

 

Depend on the game, CPU and GPU. 2 core CPU will definitely bottleneck GPU in latest titles. 4 core CPU will not bottleneck most of the GPUs (for current games). 6 core CPU would be much better since 6 core CPUs are becoming mainstream and it seems new games utilize more than 4 cores. Few games utilize more than 8 cores.

 

Other than core count, IPC (Instructions Per Clock) and clock speed affects CPU bottleneck. Higher the IPC and clock speed, better the performance.
