What are the best RTS games on pc?

Olli_

Hi :)

I was wondering what are some of the best RTS games to buy on pc I haven't played any as I have only just made the switch to pc but have been looking at Total war series and they look really good and also Civ V. I was wondering are there are any others that you would recommend?

if you like a good story, i would recomend the starcraft franchise, start with 1 episode 1 and go through to the end of starcraft 2

There's two kinds of RTS games imo. There's the massive army clash style, where units are really "personal" and you just get another dozen when you lose them. Then there's the small, super in depth style, where units are precious items that you can become attached to. For the clash style, the Total War series is very good. For small scale, I absolutely recommend Company of Heroes, of which I'm a longtime fan and player.

There is no the best RTS on PC. There is many good RTS games though.

adding more into the list.

Warhammer 40k: Dawn Of War series

- First one is old school C&C like RTS games. Base building and all that shits.

- Second one is COH like RTS games. Capture capture capture.

- Third one is a mixed of 1st and 2nd with MOBA twist. (Many hated this)

Syrian Warfare

- Single player only.

Ashes Of The Singularity:Escalation

- Different kind of large scale battles.

- Might takes times to learn and enjoy.

- Old school style RTS.

Age of Empires (1 + 2)

Command & Conquer 2, maybe 3

Supreme Commander

Warcraft 2

That's the ones I'd start with...

And yes, I played them at the time...

Warcraft 3 TFT is HANDS DOWN best RTS ever made in my opinion, and where DotA/Mobas was born.

Age of Empires would be the second fav for me.

Not by a long shot.

War3 is more like an RTS/RPG Hybrid like Spellforce...

Will I be able to play any of these games and the ones mentioned above on a iGPU?

Probably not.

But most of the ones I mentioned you could.

Especially things like Age of Empire 1 and 2, Warcraft 2, Command and Conquer 2...

Because they don't use 3D Acceleration.

Depends on the iGPU. Though any in the last decade should at least play Warcraft 3 and AoE2 HD fine. CoH2 definitely would take some tweaking, but it looks playable on at least a Haswell iGPU:

I don't have a notebook. I have a pc but can't afford the card that I want at the moment so I have to wait a while until I can get one.

Starcraft 2, since a good chunk of the game is free, and you'll need the Battle.net launcher anyways to play Warcraft.

Age of Empires 2 is a classic.

Creeper World is a hidden indie gem, brings me back to the old flash games. 95%+ on steam. Runs on a potato.

I liked Halo Wars back on the console, not sure how it ported over.

Also, Humble Bundle has a sale on strategy games $12 for 7 games, definite buy to get stared on your collection: https://www.humblebundle.com/games/strategy-bundle?hmb_source=humble_home&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=mosaic_section_1_layout_index_1_layout_type_twos_tile_index_2
