you only need money because you have to pay someone for the goods and services. If the robots do it do you really need money at all that's my point. Utopia and all, still who knows the future.

We either spend our days in leisure or as slaves for the machines  :P

The only reason why democracy works currently is that its societies benefit from higher quality productivity from its citizens, without that there would be no incentive to keep high quality of life in these places, additionally the only reason dictators don't simply kill everyone in their country is that they need people to mine for materials, keep basic infrastructure and to protect them.

 

AI will likely be the end of society as we know it and unlike in the past the future people in control will have no need for fleshy servants and serfs.

i guess that in a perfect utopia with robots doing everything including their own build and maintenance, human productivity would no longer be an issue. The quality of life would be assured by those "slaves". If everyone lived well enough you would no longer need so many rules, no crime, no class warfare, etc...

Laziness to the level that no one need to do absolutely nothing, would probably leave us all dumb as rocks in no time and eventually regressing in the scale of human evolution, and that's the premises of many sci fi fiction. We either be slaves to a revolt of the machines or by what i just said. Either way the result would be the same, machines in charge.

AI has its spot in the world. But I honestly wouldn't trust it with too much. Defense is an important area sure, arguably the most important, and AI could definitely help out there. But the whole "robots replacing humans" deal is something that I don't agree with. Again, AI has its spot and can be useful, but I would prefer having a seasoned professional surgeon(for example) operating on me rather than a programmed robot that could malfunction. As for AI taking jobs, it definitely does that. Who knows how long before Uber and Lyft or even taxis get pushed out by autonomous vehicles.

As someone who knows surgeons and people who work for them I defiantly trust a robot more. The only redeeming human factor are feelings

Haven't watched the documentary since it's blocked but I am actually in the medical field. The only robot I know of is from Intuitive surgical and it still requires a surgeon to operate...did they say something else in the documentary?

They say exactly what @BuckGup say. They have at least 2 surgeons speaking and some robot that operates, but yep for what i understand it is still not a fully autonomous robot.

watch the documentary and you're in for a surprise. Those are not the only jobs planned for robots, they clearly mention the surgeon's example, and that's in no way a repetitive low paying job. Machine learning/deep learning plays a great role in there. And robots can do it better and of course more efficiently. 

But they give a lot more examples of complex, high paying jobs that require years of studying that will also be on the line.

True it does. To me though for surgery it CAN make more sense for a robot to do it then a doctor. Of course we will still need doctors that know what they are doing there to make sure it doesn't screw up and horribly maim or kill said patient. Everything will come with time. It's just a matter of how fast we adapt to the changes before we screw large segments of the population over more then already happens.

every day somewhere there is a robot doing something and actively learning from it, machine learning. From the most simple things like chess or playing video games to surgery. And if you trust those very smart people the future is much closer than anyone of us can imagine when robots can actually do complex jobs for themselves. Elon Musk has a vision of it that is actually scary in terms of the time frame that is possible to be a reality for example.

Imagine that this can be stop to give time for humans to adapt seems very difficult to believe, to me a least. And of course as the movie mentions the gap between those that have and those that don't have will only increase in a very dramatic way.
