They are usually meh. You have to send in the UPC code and cut it out of the box, fill out some paperwork, provide a proof of purchase (invoice, receipt, etc) and then they'll usually just give you a prepaid card with the money on it, they don't give you a check these days.

Looks like it is something people are not liking...

How long did you have to wait to get your money?

Mail in rebates vary, usually they say around 6-8weeks for you to receive your cheque. I personally don’t make purchases that have mail in rebates if it is less than $20.

As stated above, they will vary based on the company behind the promotion. Typically they are 6-8 weeks or 8-10 weeks.

They're useful if you don't mind waiting for the money, and they're usually not a crazily significant amount over choosing a similar product. You also have to pay close attention to the information you fill out on the form, as any little mistake will void your rebate and they won't honor it.

I did a few wayyyyyy back in the day, but I generally steer clear of them nowadays.

Why would they void it if you did it right?

Because they're chickenshits. I bought an MSI board a couple of years ago, carefully filled out the rebate, it was listed online as both approved and mailed out but I never got shit. So I'm done buying anything MSI ever again. I also did two rebates with Antec on a case and on a power supply and I got prepaid cards with the balance of the rebate on them within a couple of months both times.

Also, another thing is the rebate cards do not last forever. They only have about 6 months before money starts getting taken out of the card as a "service fee." So if you get them, be sure to spend them sooner rather than later. Other than that, I've never really had a problem getting the rebates honored.

When I did mine a few years ago it went threw a 3rd party (I think) and I never got it either... It was for my 1070 I think and it was on sale as well, but I don't think I had to mail out anything it was all done online.

Seriously tho you can't hate on a company for bad MIR, there are many pity thieves in the post industry as well as those who steal from the mail (cards are thick and distinguishable).

IMO don't bother with MIR's unless it's online only (or option) then why not, I wouldn't mail anything out as your rate of return seems to be very low.

I'm going to hate on them for hiring some company to not fulfill their rebates.

The issue is they might have but some scum between them mailing it out and you getting it might have stolen it (possibly both times esp if no tracking). Apparently it's a huge issue in some parts of Brittan and I know it happens here in Canada, I get mail for neighbours or others with the same house number but wrong road with a different postal code.

Unless you contacted them for a replacement which either got declined or never gotten, one can't really blame them. If you have done the replacement route then yes you can blame them. I did this with BFG like 9-10 years ago but I actually had to mail it out, never got it asked for a second one never got it either.

So yea, MIR should never be a purchase incentive, just a bonus if it comes threw.
