Probably better off with a 6 core 12 thread CPU, either the R5 1600/2600 or i7 8700

You don't need a GTX 1080 for 1080p gaming, a 1070 or even 1060/580 would be fine.

Are GPU prices finally back to normal then?

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

GPUS are still pricey. Cant find any GTX 1080 for under $600 USD on newegg or amazon.

But the I5-8400 is still a better CPU for gaming than Ryzen right now. It provides more potential head room in the future.

I'd rather suggest 6c/12t CPUs are the same price, even if you only get 100fps instead of 120fps with coffee lake. Plus AM4 is going to last a while it seems, and it's better to have the extra multi-threaded performance should you ever need it.

I do enjoy my Ryzen. I was playing Overwatch, had 6 VMs opeen and was installing a game with no noticeable performance impact.

Ryzen 1600 is the best all around CPU imo still. So I can agree there. Im getting my buddies 1800x and am gonna sell my 1600 to my brother.
