Motherboard DVI port wasn't working so I did this...

Well as long as the Display 2 is your main display while the Display 1 is the side monitor every thing is working as it should and you don't have to worry about performance hits on your main monitor (display 2) at all.

So TLDR:

I could not get my second monitor to work as my motherboard wasn't detecting the DVI cable. I went into my bios settings and changed the display to IGPU.

Turns out both monitors work now but I'm unsure if this will effect performance due to integrated graphics being enabled.

What do you think?

I'm not sure if my GPU will bypass the whole using the integrated graphics or if it will come into play some how.

Well see here is the problem. The pc can now decide what it's going to use and you don't have total control over that. I would just open task manager (if on win 10) or msi afterburner and launch a game and test on both screens to see which gpu gets activated.

Where were you plugging the DVI? Do you have a GPU? Which one? What operating system?

Usually the BIOS is set to disable the iGPU if you have a dedicated GPU, however enabling it does not mean your dedicated GPU won't work, you can simply go to dxdiag.exe and see for yourself the working video settings it probably will show your two displays and how one is running off the card while the other from the iGPU.

 

All you did was force iGPU enable along side the dedicated GPU as far as I am concerned here.

Ok so I have 2 potential places to plug in my DVI. I plug my main monitor into my GPU and my second monitor into my motherboard.

OS = Windows 10

My gpu is displayed in the display 2, whereas my Integrated shows as display 1. Will that cause any problems with performance?

Why don't you just plug both monitors to the 1080?

If you plug it into the motherboard it will use both the eGPU & the iGPU.

Seems he is using DVI-D for both monitors so he can't unless he gets a HDMI/Display Port to DVI cable and such... as long as he just needs a display adapter for the secondary screen there shouldn't be the need though, would only cause issues if he wanted to game on both screens at the same time, for stuff like extended desktop or watch a movie while gaming and such it'll be fine.

If the main monitor is primary, there wont be an issue.

 

As far as a performance hit, I cant say. I assume the igpu is actually separate and doesn't correlate directly to cpu as far as use.

I do it for my 4th monitor I cant have  3 or more on a single gpu and still down clock at idle. My cpu's are weak so I always max them out for my normal gaming anyway.
