Yup!! I changed Google Chrome's display language to English (Canada) and now both color/colour check/cheque are accepted as correct. Thank you!! :D

So I live in Canada and I speak English. I am fairly decent at Français as well but certainly not 100% fluent. Anyway, I noticed while typing in messenger that despite having my languages panel in settings set accordingly, I was seeing red lines under my correctly spelled words. See fig.1:

So why is this? As you can see, I don't have English (US) in my languages panel anywhere:

I have the keyboard layout "US" selected, but that's just the name of the layout, which is the placement of the keys, isn't it?

Can anyone tell me how I can get my red-colored lines to become red-coloured lines?

Merci :)

Not a permanent fix-all solution but you should be able to right click and "add to dictionary" and it will never correct you for that spelling again.

True, there are only so many differently-spelled words... If I don't see any other solutions posted that's what I'll do.

Obviously I'd still prefer it if it was in maple syrup mode instead of bald eagle mode.

If you're honestly wondering (probably not, but why not overshare), I personally use a mixture of the two 'languages' (as well as saying things like 'zee' fairly frequently). Which is pretty ironic, considering that I'm complaining about it. I use an 's' in surprised, but a 'z' in magazine, etc. It's weird. I just go with the flow. Going for a Computer Science degree certainly hasn't helped with the whole color vs. colour thing, though. I've been known to do this:

Apps usually have their own language settings like in Office, you'll need to setup the dictionary language independent of the OS language. What app is this Messenger?
