Gaming/Productivity CPU Needed

So are ryzen (amd) cpus better or worse then intels cpus

 

i compared ryzen 3 to intel i5 and they seem nearly the same.

what do you think? should i go with ryzen, or intel? and which would be better in the long term

 

also, i saw someone saying the where going to do a high performance cpu and skip out on ram. would that even work?

I would say go for whatever is cheaper then, money is better spent on the GPU than CPU for that

I wouldn't say AMD is better or worse either brand is capable of doing that job. Generally AMD is going to be significantly cheaper.

The R3 1200/1300X/2200G is roughly equivalent to the i5-4460

R5 1400/1500X/2400G to the i5 6500/7500

R5 1600/1600X to the i5 7600K/i5 8400

If you can hold off a week the ryzen+ CPUs should be announced and released and should give a reasonable boost to performance.

This ^. Also, even if you don't want to up your budget, as the new CPUs will cost a bit more than the present generation of Ryzens, the chances are that their release will drive existing Ryzen CPU pricing down a little more than they are right now. So you could save a little bit more and maybe go for a Ryzen 5, rather than a Ryzen 3.

What models of i5 are you looking at that are the same as an R3?

I'm thinking you're looking at some flawed benchmarks.

As has already been stated, I would HIGHLY suggest waiting a week or two for Zen+ to launch. You will be getting more performance for almost the exact same cost (in fact, in some areas, including the United States, the Ryzen 2700x, 2700, 2600X, and 2600 are already on preorder. The 2700 is going to be MSRP @ $299, with the 2600X at $220)

From a NewEgg listing? Not a very good source. Also why are you comparing it to last generation Intel products? That's also a huge issue.
