$600-$700 ish Laptop Recommendations

My mom is currently in the market for a new laptop, after the last one she had kind of broke. She's looking for something in the $600-$700 range. Her only requirements are a numpad and an SSD. Battery life doesn't need to be super good since she usually has access to a wall outlet. Nothing else is really necessary, though better is obviously, well, better.

 

I looked around on Costco (Costco would be nice since returns would be simple) and I found this:

It seems pretty decent, though this review from laptopmag isn't exactly that promising. 

 

Does anyone have any other recommendations?

I would be fine with that, but numpads are hard to find these days. I haven't seen anything sub 15" with a numpad so... yeah.

Acer Aspire comes to mind.

Though being an Acer, be prepared to nuke the installation because of the amount of preloaded crap there is. And of course you can go with the i5 model rather than spending the extra for the i7.

I must say, that actually looks pretty good. Reviews seem a fair bit more solid than those for the Dell.

 

Bloatware seems to be an issue with the Dell too, so it shouldn't matter too much. I should be able to deal with that

More DOA chance. Not a big stuff actually, just need to be a bit lucky. Build quality is good for Aspire 5.

You reckon an Aspire 5 is an ok choice then, or something else perhaps? I see one with an 8250u on amazon that's $549 ATM

Yes it's a good choice. However Swift 3 15 is better IMO. If you need a good display then Aspire 5 17 (1080p).

What exactly is it about the Swift 3 15 that is better? It is more expensive, but if it's stuff that matters I think it'd be reasonable to choose.

Slighly better build quality and battery life. Also slimmer, lighter and has slightly better cooling

 

Keep in mind that the internal design of Aspire 5 15 and 17 are pretty much the same (same mobo), only differences are ports layout and having a DVD drive in the 17 inch model.
