Windows Server 2016 install crashes shortly after lauch

suchamoneypit

System is a Dell R815 with 2/4 processors being 6234s, along with 2x8GB DDR3 1333 and installing on a Seagate 146GB 10K SAS drive.

As seen, Im not sure why this is happening. Im installing off a USB. I've used the USB to install windows successfully on a x4 6380 server and a x4 6134 server which is identical besides CPUs. Looking online I saw maybe its a PSU issue however the server has redundant PSUs and both are powered. Wouldn't both have to be dead for this to happen? I've tried 3 separate USBs with windows server. BIOS works fine.

Anyone have any idea on why this is happening?

Dell doesn't support Server 2016 on this model. Have you tried 2012R2?

Hmm. Im confused as why my 6100 series system and my 6300 series system work fine but not my 6200 series system with windows 2016.

I'll give it a shot with server 2012 (tomorrow night). Worth noting that occasionally it will be at the splash screen with a loading wheel, however it stays like this indefinitely.

Is the hardware fully identical except for the CPUs then? No different controllers or add-in cards? Disks setup in arrays and healthy?

Completely identical other than CPUs. Im trying having a different HDD in now and then depending on results see if Linux boots off a USB.

Making sure the firmwares are all up to date is also something worth trying.

My guess is bad memory or a mainboard problem. Try some memory from one of the known good servers.

Server usually does a mem check and reports errors on boot, I have had 4 bad sticks now total but this system had bad sticks replaced. I'll swap some RAM around when I get a chance to test it out.
