Hello, i have a dilemma. i have an sm961 250gb nvme running os with 3 2 tb hdd in raid for storage. i want to get rid of my hdd so i have a choice.

--buy 2 more sm961 and raid 5 them for 750gb and use for os and storage.

--buy pm981 512gb and use as storage.

--get rid of both and buy 1tb pm981 and use for both.

first two options cost me half of third option.

I'm an enthusiast and gamer i know speeds aren't going to make a difference. between raid and non raid nvme. also i know its a pointless upgrade but i wand a hdd/ssd free case.

i have 4 nvme slots in my mobo so i could upgrade in the future to more if i go with 1st option but kind of a pain with the raid.

i am just looking for your opinions I'm kind of torn lol.

current system specs:

-asus x299 rampage vi apex

-intel i7 7820x oc to 4.8ghz  on all 8 cores

-2 gtx 1080 ti in sli

-evga 280cc aio cooler for cpu

-16gb corsair vengence 2400 oc to 3000mhz

-250 gb sm961 nvme (Samsung 960 pro)

-3x 2tb hdd in raid 5

-inwin 805 case

I'm really just bored with my system and want to change it up :D

Id just get a sinlge 1tb ssd, easier to mange, more reliable, and the speeds are about the same.

You are probably thinking of raid 0, raid 10 need a even number of drives and haves usable storage.

Personally... id go 1tb nvme - allows for further expansion and the raid speeds as you mentioned wont be that noticeable if at all in Day to Day use for a gamer.

Single drive. You don't need the speed, and all you're doing is reducing future expansion as well as drastically increasing the risk of failure.
