The best CPU is the one you can afford and is capable of accomplishing the tasks you wish it to. Most CPUs in the last 10 years (or even older) can run in a server box but you need to know what you want to do before you shop. For instance if you're wanting something to run VM and Intel you'll want to make sure it has virtualization...There are probably hundreds of choices out there. Some may not be fast enough for you while others are overkill.
