Hello,

I have a question related a Gigabyte board: Gigabyte z97x SOC-Force, I want to buy an SSD and found at very good prices 2 Samsung ones:

SSD Samsung 850 Evo

SSD Samsung 960 Evo NVME <- I really want this one

The problem is that my motherboard doesn't have an M.2 slot and I want to buy an adapter, it's about 9/10Euro here.

I tried to find out if is possible to boot windows from an m.2 SSD in a adapter on this motherboard but no luck. I know the chipset, Z97 will support it, but I don't know in this case.

I need some advice/information if something like this is possible. Thanks!

P.S. Changing the motherboard is not an option, I don't want to upgrade yet!

Most of the m.2 adapters only support SATA and not NVME drives.

dont think you can boot from an NVME PCIe drive on Z97, at least not with an adapter. i dont really get why you would get one anyway, the performance gain in anything but extreme video edeting and stuff like that is minimal or even un noticable in a lot of cases

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)
