Apparently Twitter has been suspending accounts that steal tweets.

Quote

Continuing its battle against the "tweetdeckers," Twitter suspended on Friday several popular accounts known for stealing tweets or mass-retweeting tweets into manufactured virality.

They [Twitter] are trying to stop spam accounts and stop people who inflate accounts in order to sell them and so on.

A number of meme accounts have been affected (finally we won't see the same meme over and over again, for now of course)

This wasn't meant to be some news topic, I just want to see what other people have to say about it and their thoughts are.

How is "manufactured virality" a thing?

If this is about bots, then twitter needs to take better measures to detect and suspend bots.

If this is about pushing tweets to the front, it seems like a fairly transparent attempt of them trying to prevent people from a circumvent of Twitter's own advertising business models since they actually do "manufacture virality" themselves with "promoted tweets" a.k.a. Advertising.

It seems to be extremely fucking near sighted to reprimand people for using their popularity on a website that encourages people to become popular to begin with by using follower counts, likes and retweet counts, verified checkmarks, etc.

So here's the thing.

An account that gets caught up accidentally in the banning and is banned wrongfully? Sure that's bad. There should be a process in which account holders can get their accounts back.

However, as for the reason twitter is actually trying to stop this: bots spamming retweets? Yeah I'm 100% okay with that.

ITT: People who don't care about Twitter so much that they go into a thread with 'Twitter' in the title, read the first post which is about twitter, write a response expressing just how much they care about twitter, and then clicking 'submit reply'.
