My Steam Account Compromised?

Some how something or someone... was able to send a spam message to every single person on my friends list.

How?

I have steam guard ON 

My PC has no virus or malware 

and steam was only logged in there at the time.

 

how is this possible? is steam guard bypassable?

 

i googled exactly what the spam message was and could only find one article.

 

i have since removed all friends and unassociated the steam account to me, and given it to an IRL friend as he wanted the games. What intrigues me now is how something like this can happen?

1) your computer does have malware but you don't know it

2) they logged into your steam acc which you should have gotten an email about (if they compromised your email they could have deleted that email tho)

okay i'll look into the malware furthermore.

However the only way my account could have been accessed is with the code sent to my phone. unless they have workarounds to this now..

iirc that sort of stuff is usually done trough some form of (primitive) malware.

 

they dont really have "access" to your steam account, they can just interface with it trough your (compromised) system.

so even though i have completely uninstalled steam done many malware and virus scans. and found nothing. there is probably still gonna be traces of it left...

I just thought I would update people. after several virus and malware scans it found nothing. I woke up this morning to find my PC have been crypto locked. If anyine gets this message and clicks on the link, copy and paste important stuff and hope for the best...

You might be interested in tools at nomoreransom.org if you're crypto locked, but really, if you have a backup, I'd recommend secure wipe your drive and reinstall.

I had somewhat of a backup on my NAS so I just wiped and reinstalled. Lucky for me the crypto locker didn't affect network drives or else i'd be up shits creek right now.
