Why is RAM so expensive now?

Can someone explain to me why RAM is so expensive at the moment? I think I may have missed something, I got my 1600Mhz 16GB Gskill Ripjaws for $75 AUD now it is $179!!???

Can someone please inform me what is going on please? Thanks in advance :D

i think they make ram chips so if they cant make ram chips for a while then ram will become scares and the price will go up

yeah i thinks so i mean if they werent a big player in the ram business the prices wouldt have gone up

They manufacture flash memory chips. People use their flash memory chips. They are the second-largest memory chipmaker. Samsung is actually the largest.

Also the fact that DDR4 will be coming soon might have something to do with that

Besides fire demand for 1600MHz ram is high now. I recently did some price check and price for quality (some say it "gaming") sticks running with 1600MHz is higher than for those running on 1866 or 2133MHz.

Sudden increase in NAND demand. (SSDs, thumb drives, storage in laptops and phones, etc)

Plus the fire in the hynix fab killed their clean rooms, causing to be dirty and unusable.

Those guys do not own Fabricators. They outsource the work to other people with the actual machines. Machines to produce computer hardware cost billions and most companies do not own their own fabs. Samsung owns lots of fabs which is why they can underprice almost everyone in whatever market they enter.

Not sure what you are trying to say. But when the building that makes 1/3 of the world's RAM catches on fire it will drive prices up. It is not even the fire that ruins the building it is the smoke that contaminates the building.
