Should I buy a Windows Mixed Reality HMD?

Dogmander25

I am interested in getting into vr and the Windows MR headsets are very cheap on Amazon and wondering if I should buy 1 for a person who is getting into VR. Also, if my pc can run it. If you want any benchmarks or specs, ask me and I will reply.

I have the worst one and still like it. It was trash before SteamVR support though. Now it's only a little trash. Waiting for next gen stuff to really dive in. If you can get it cheap, go for it. Do list specs though.

You're not gonna have a great time with an RX 560.

What about on low? EDIT: The RX 560 is 4GB, not 2 GB.

For SteamVR games you'd want at least an RX 570 for low settings, preferably a 580.

Your 560 can probably run some of the basic Windows MR stuff, but games in VR are just really demanding.

Windows also has their own tool to verify if your PC is capable of WMR.

Also, you need bluetooth for the controllers. Most things don't mention that. Hardware aside, if you can run it get a headset. I was hesitant with WMR at first too but I got a Samsung Odyssey and I love it! Super immersive and fun, I get lost in it for hours at a time easy. Now after owning one, I think WMR is the best headset to buy right now. You get the best of all worlds. Easy set-up, no base stations to place and configure and no extra USB ports needed, you literally plug it in walk around your room and pair the controllers. You can play games/apps from any marketplace, Steam VR works well and Revive incorporates Oculus store into Steam VR.

Go for it!
