Open the Registry Editor and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows >CurrentVersion > Explorer > DriveIcons

If you find any value there other than (Default), delete it and restart. Should look like this.

Are you asking about the odd ball icon? Because to answer the question you wrote, HDDs are short for Hard Disk Drive, which you guessed it, is a hard drive.

enable windows explorer to show "protected system files" and enable hidden files and delete the .ico file inside that drive, or just format it.
