1060 or RX 480/580 are your best options; I've done builds with both for this exact purpose and they're great. I use a 970 on that exact monitor but I wouldn't recommend buying last-gen. Also, are you just gaming?

No, this pc is going to be for gaming/streaming/ and lots of rendering, in which the i7 8700k is needed

Hey,

So I am building a computer, which has an i7 8700k and Corsair Vengeance 16GB DDR4 3600MHz, but I cant choose a good graphics card for performance and is good for its price. What is a good graphics card for an Acer GN246HL (1920x1080 144Hz 1ms)?

I would personally get a 1080 or 1080 ti

Good choice, if the price is right.

Other very good options are Msi gaming X, or the best: Gainward Phoenix / Palit Jetstream/Gamerock (best cooler).

I would also look out for a GTX 1080~.

This might be only Full HD 1920x1080, but it's 144 Hz. And a GTX 1060 / RX 580 will struggle to even hit 60 fps, in some games, if you go ultra settings.

GTX 1060 / RX 580 are perfect 1080p Cards, if you aim for a 60 fps Lock with 60 Hz, and you want to achieve that with slightly lowering settings.

Anything more than 60 Hz, you can really use more performance. GTX 1080 is a very good choice here.

Yea, thats what got me tripping when people said 1060/RX 580 were top 1080p cards, but I look at benchmarks and in some games, they struggle with 60 fps. So the 1080 would max most games on 144Hz, 1080p?

no, you got that a bit wrong.

Ideal 1080p Card has also something to do with price / performance.

You only need minor adjustments in order to hit 60 fps lock with 1060/RX 580. Of course, not always Ultra, because in some games, ultra settings are so hardcore, even a 1080 ti / Titan Xp will struggle to hit 60 fps.

Slightly minor adjustments, High instead Ultra, 0.5% lower visual quality, and 40-50% higher fps. That's price / performance, because you get a much higher performance, for almost no impact on visuals.

Midrange GPUs are NOT made in order to play ULTRA settings. Detail level, that you probably won't even notice in that low resolution of 1080p. Games aren't even optimized for Ultra settings. They are optimized for High~.

Like i said, if you don't know how to use graphic settings, even the strongest GPU won't be enough ^^

But now back to 1080: Of course, you will be able to play every single game maxed out. Your Monitor runs in 144 Hz always, no matter how much fps.

The Question is, how much fps you will get.

And how much fps is enough for you.

Example, Kingdom Come Deliverance. Great visuals, but not the best optimization ever: http://www.pcgameshardware.de/Kingdom-Come-Deliverance-Spiel-16151/Specials/Benchmark-Test-Review-Gameplay-1249935/

In 1080p, if you max out graphics (Ultra high. There are also Very High and High, and then comes Medium), a 1080 ti will only get 80 fps in average. With drops to 46 fps.

A Titan V for 3000 dollar will get 84 fps~

A 1080 will get 71 fps with drops to 36.

But you can get 40-50% higher fps, if you drop settings from Ultra High to High.

It all depends what you expect, and what compromises you are willing to make.

Fact is: There is no Graphics Card out there, that will play EVERY single Game in a clean 144 fps Lock in 1080p Ultra.

Even the next 2080 ti will not be able to do this. ^^

I know someone, with a Titan X (Pascal). He can get GTA 5 down to 22 fps in 1080p. Just with using ingame settings to the max.

Or optimized, he can get it to 92 fps at 2160p ^^

I recommend this Video:

Wow, thanks for all this information. Oh, and I should probably tell you the games I play. I play Dota 2, Overwatch, GTA V, PUBG, CSGO, LoL, WoW, and Fortnite. With all these games, whats a good gpu that could get high fps on 1080p (Possibly Ultra, most likely going to use high)

You will have to use settings in GTA 5 and Pubg. Both aren't the best optimized, and GTA 5 still takes up alot of CPU performance. And can have some heavy taxing stuff.

Fortnite should be able to hit 144 fps maxed out if i'm not mistaken. Maybe slight optimizations.

DOTA 2 and LoL will run in a clean 144 fps, and your GPU will be bored even (at least in LoL).

Overwatch... should hit 170-180 fps maxed out (100% resolution s cale) with a 1080. So yea, clean 144 fps lock possible there.

WoW depends.. More Players = more taxing on the CPU ^^ But you should easy peasy get some high smooth fps there.

So yea, your only worry will be, not hitting 100+ fps in ULTRA settings. Optimize graphic settings a slight bit (you don't even have to go as low as Medium or so~), and you should at least hit 100+ fps there, in most cases even 140+ fps.

And in case you want to upgrade your Monitor to lets say a 2560x1440 + 144 Hz + G-Sync (i really recommend G-Sync there, it adds a lot to the overall smoothness), it's also perfectly fine for that. But with that resolution bump, you can expect around 30% fps loss~

it's even halfway decent for 4k / 60 Hz gaming, if you reduce settings~

Ok, so I guess my only question is, and this is in your opinion, is the 1080 worth it (price and performance) or do u recommend me getting something like a 1070)

Bear in mind that many benchmarks are run on the highest, or near highest, settings. You don't need to do that.

That said, for 1080p, 144 Hz, I'd opt for the 1080 if you're concerned to routinely reach the monitor's potential.

1070 minimum to have some headroom, for resale value and future upgrades go for the 1080 ti, or wait til april for ampere.

1070ti would be your best choice considering your needs/budget. Overclock it a bit and it'll do as well as a 1080 at a slightly lower price.

Are the old gens still good? (970, 980, 980 ti). If not, I could still afford a 1080, but would rather not waste my money.
