Non "K" CPU and budget motherboard questions

EOZ

Hi Guys!

Is it possible to undervolt and underclock non "K" CPU and RAM on budget intel motherboards H110, b250, B360 etc. Or these options are disabled on these motherboards ?

It is not possible. If you want lower clock or powered chips you can get S/T version of the processor you are looking for. Also I never heard of B360 board

SPECS: Intel Core i5-4460 // PowerColor Red Dragon RX 480 4GB // 1x8GB DDR3 RAM // Delta 500AB-6A PSU // HyperX Cloud Stinger / Logitech G710+ / Logitech G502 / Xbox One Halo Guardian controller // LG 24M45H 1080p //

B360 board is upcoming Coffee Lake board, equivalent of B250 in terms of Kaby Lake.

Not awake yet, was that something to do with AMD nabbing B350 for their Ryzen chipset already, so trying to (slightly) avoid further confusion?

As for underclocking/undervolting a non-K, I'll have to check. I think it might be possible to limit multipliers through software (like XTU) but maybe not on the voltage adjustment. I'll have a go on my laptop shortly.

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible

I have a old i3 3220 on a B75 motherboard and I used to underclock it to be able to run slower fan speed and less noise, i dont know if i just got lucky in my combination of board and processor, or its possible because its kind of outdated by now

My Gaming PC: 27833

I just fired up XTU on my laptop... i7-6700HQ + HM170 chipset. It was actually the other way around. I could adjust the fsb from 100 to 99.5 MHz, so not much scope there. Offset voltage I could move the slider down 1V but didn't actually try it. There was also an option to reduce the CPU current limit which might cause it to throttle, but I also didn't try that.

Isn't there an option in Windows power setting to limit CPU speeds too? Again, I've not really played with that.
