hows water treat that 4 u?

my friend kept buying new cell phones and they kept falling into the river when he fished, he must've spent a few grand in total. I dont think he is to the extreme of always texting all the time, but distracted driving sometimes with texting.

me I just buy cheap phones, dont care really about them.

That's why I always carry a pen, a pen that can write on almost anything, including steel and sandpaper (not so well).

Oh and my backpack has pens in it too, and in my car I keep a notepad and a pen.

Stranded, where? In a farmers field? If I was stranded, why would I be concerned about math (especially if the context is fixing some piece of farmers equipment)?

Plus, I always keep a 13,000 mAh battery pack in my backpack ;)

So sure, hypothetically there could be a situation in which my battery ran out, and the backup battery ran out, and I had no electricity.

But hypothetically, your pencil could break, or you could get a concussion and your internal math skills could be clouded by the injury.

I mean, if we're talking about whataboutisms after all :P

Depending on how much battery you use and everything your 13000 mah might not last a week ;)

What kind of pen? 90% of the ball points die in the canadian winter, hence I don't own one :)

If I were truly stranded, I would die of thirst before week's end lol.

I mean literally in a field haha. Apart from counting sheep theres not much too it. More biological knowledge and farm experience needed. Its pretty practical work.

Very unlikely, you'd go into survival mode ;) Rain water is safe to drink if caught before hitting the ground, knowing how to start a fire and making a bowl to boil water is also a good thing to know ;)

How many times have you been caught sleeping on the job?

All good points, but if I were in survival mode, the ability to reverse calculate percentages would be totally and utterly irrelevant xD

Very true but math is important to attempt to find a proper path and approximating distance.

Unless someone kidnaps you and makes you play a little game which without those skills you would die if you were even off by 0.1 :S

Sure but those math skills - which are honestly going to be more intuition based in the field, were never in question :P

Just an FYI, my math skills are overall quite good for someone of my age, who doesn't need to use math on a daily basis.

True :P

Yea, I use math almost every day and not for work either... For those bloody dumb drivers(plenty where I live), which is why I am likely still breathing... It's safer to j-walk here than use the actual lights, that's where math comes in handy a lot...

I'm surprised nobody's just given straight algebra.

.74x = 37

x = 37/.74 = 50

I can't imagine doing math with a pen.

"Do as I say, not as I do."

I hate pencils :P I used to get yelled at in math class during high school, not due to scratching out wrong answers (rarely happened), nope, just because I was going against curricular requirements of having a pencil xD Accounting was fun tho... Pens for the strong Pencils for the weak :P

Look at my post

same way you did it, kinda

its quite simple, can do it in your head

its like 2-1/4 + 3-1/4 is 5-1/2

but people these days cant do nothing without a calculator in their hand
