worth upgrading to a core i7 8700k from a i7 7700 for 4k gaming

So, I have an intel core i7 7700 and a GeForce gtx 1070 and I have always wanted to overclock and game at 4k but I am not sure the processor can handle 4k so I wondering is it worth to upgrade to an i7 8700k for 4k gaming or stay with this chip.

But no. Buy a new GPU instead, or don't upgrade. Have you even tried to game at 4K with those specs? It should be achievable.

u can try 4k gaming on low, 60fps, at 60fps u won't need a cpu upgrade.

No I have never but I don't think 1070 could because when I play Fornite, overwatch or some of my other games that use a lot of GPU usage and power the fan speed is always maxed so I am not sure I should try

Not really worth the upgrade. Most games at 4k are GPU bound, so the extra performance from the 8700K will certainly not be worth the purchase.

Better CPU does not help when you're talking about GPU-only settings like resolution. Only a better GPU will give you better performance at 4k

i've tried a 1080 ti with a 2600k at 4k/60 for a week, it works, cpu wasn't maxed while the gpu was, with a 8600k or 8700k the cpu usage is lower but gpu usage is similar

maybe on low or medium, a 1080 ti will run high on almost all games, i'd suggest trying to run 4k/60 on ur 7700/1070 first.
