new to android

xwrench3

hi, i replaced my ancient Nokia Lumia 520 with a Motorola G5+. which means Android not Windows.  so far most things i have been adjusting to without much trouble. until today. i went to watch one of my favorite You Tubers, and got quite an unpleasant surprise.  i do not mind an occasional ad. and can tolerate a couple of them once in a while. but after the 4th straight ad, of which none of them i had ANY interest in,i closed the app in disgust. i tried again later, where it started the same stinking ads as before. i am NOT going to pay you tube to view ad free, that does not set well with me. in my eyes, that is extortion. i asked my 16 year old son, if there was an ad blocker i could use like i do in my computer, but he said "not for Android." so since he does not know everything, i am here asking for help. is there an ad blocker i can use in Android and or You Tube on Android? i looked in the app store and found a slew of them. but i do not know what will work well, or where for that matter.

you might be able to just open youtube in a browser like chrome and set it to desktop view and then run an adblocker in chrome , I never tried it because I just skip the ads in the youtube app

off topic: My 2013 galaxy came with a stock youtube app that doesn't support ads unless it's updated , which is pretty cool. lol

Welcome to android! First of all I'd recommend rooting your device with kingoroot and debloating your device's unnecessary apps. As for debloating your phone, just look for system app remover on play store, key things NOT to remove:

Google Play Services

Android System

Anything to do with telephony

Anything to do with SMS

Anything to do with bluetooth

Anything to do with wifi

Location services

Keychain

Probably a bunch more you shouldn't remove but the list would probably be crazy large. If you don't want to stop at debloating your phone, look into installing TWRP for your device and installing a custom ROM such as LineageOS (I'd highly recommend lineage, runs beautifully on my s4 mini and moto e 2015). Ads wise, just install xposed and find something that can get rid of ads, there's modules for xposed for virtually anything these days. To max your device's performance you could overclock your CPU with Root Toolbox Pro or similar. I'd also recommend a little tool that can be found on XDA called seeder, it's damn useful for generating entropies and removing unnecessary processes and such meaning less lag on your phone. That's it from me I guess, don't wanna be taking too much more post space and once again welcome to the android community!

Hey, there are multiple ways of getting rid of those ads but, most of them are a bit advanced and require rooting the phone.

Luckily there's a way where all you have to do is download and install a modified YouTube app.

It can be found Here: https://og-youtube.com/#2

If you scroll down a little there is a very well detailed tutorial on how to install the app.

If you need any help look around in their FAQ section Here: https://og-youtube.com/#6 or, just ask here and I'll try to help.

If the ad is long enough in the corner it'll say "skip this ad" like it does on pc. But if the ad is like 15-30 seconds it might not give the option to skip it.

OGYoutube doesn't require rooting. Just read my post above.

Sadly mobile Chrome doesn't support add ons. At least the last time I checked.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Install ogyoutube as @Cyberspirit said above, or a non-root version of iYTBP.

They are pretty much the same but iYTBP being a later development has additional features like force VP9 and dark theme

I use it myself albeit the root version. Works like a charm, no ads saves data and processing power.

While you're at it I also suggest installing adguard ad blocker for the same ad-free benefits for your apps and browsing

Just checked iYTBP and, from what I've seen I think it's better than OG youtube. Thanks for the recommendation. :)
