it comes down to how important $40 is to you.  I have a 7600k and would love to upgrade to a 7700k because it is a significant upgrade, however the price hasn't come down and it's hard to justify.  For the cost of a cooling upgrade and the $40 swap.... it's only up to you whether it is worth it or not.  You will get an improvement esp if overclocking.... but it comes down to your opinion.  6700k or 7700k will cost a lot more to upgrade and still need improved cooling.

 

edit: for me it's almost smarter to upgrade cpu and mb to 8700k if anything, then sell my 7600k and z270.  But both are dead platforms so hooray.  I'd do an am4 swap but not sure if my cpu block would fit.

not really, save your money until you can upgrade to the i7 7700k
