headset treated as microphone only?

I have a Skullcandy Crusher Wireless headset and I wanted to use them as a headset instead of just headphones so I plugged them into (2012 non-Bluetooth pc would've gladly used BT otherwise) the headphone&mic port (that's the one with a label that's a microphone and headphones right?) but my computer only recognizes them as a mic does anyone know how to correct this?

heck.

You might be able to fix it by going into your sound settings and setting your audio output to the headphones instead of the laptop speakers.

I'm talking about a desktop

Take my original post, and replace "laptop" with "desktop". It should work either way if you're using a headphone/mic combo jack. If not, you can find adapters to USB or to audio in and audio out.

So you only have one 3.5mm port and your headset has a 4 pole connector on it?

Left is 3 pole, right is 4 pole.

Typically laptops have a combo jack and you can use a 4 pole cable. Usually desktops have two separate plugs (often labeled green and pink for headphones and microphones respectively) and you need to get two separate 3 pole connectors.
