It would help us if you can be more precise with your answers so we can help.

Would it? Would the exact cryptocurrency matter for choosing the CPU of a GPU mining rig?

All depends what is business desision. I am not only person who decides this this I participate in project.
What matters is is it GPU based or CPU based.
Not details.
What maters is do those part work if i combine them so i wont have bottle neck

Tho i know what GPU i get maters as they handle different crypto currency differently as they use different alghorythms.

What helps a lot are people like @TheGlenlivet answering OP's actual question, rather than changing its subject.

If you are doing GPU mining, the cpu is absolutely irrelevant. Buy the absolute cheapest cpu you can find(used even) Don't listen to people telling you anything else. ROI is your only concern with this. CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP.

on topic: get the cheapest cpu that will make the board tick

off topic if "stuff" is your investment plan (which, coin mining is an investment), you're going to lose.

Basically get a celeron g3930 if you want the cheapest or a pentium g440/560 if you want to have a bit extra cpu power (my advice is go with the celeron as you won't be doing gaming on this). Also GPU mining won't benefit from a faster proccessor.

Used to be everywhere in LTT forums, had a break which lasted apparently 1 year LOL.

Gonna get up againnnn.

Wake me up if I sleep again like Oppy.

Would you call this "not so profitable"?

Well a G4400 is much nicer than a Celeron and barely anymore expensive.

Get a G4400!

Total amount of cards will decide the cpu but not knowing how many you are gonna run, cheap of the cheap celeron will be fine and preferred. No reason to spend more then 40 bucks for a cpu.

Main RIg Corsair Air 540, I7 9900k, ASUS ROG Maximus XI Hero, G.Skill Ripjaws 3600 32GB, 3090FE, EVGA 1000G5, Acer Nitro XZ3 2560 x 1440@240hz
