Cheap cooler for Coffee Lake

I currently have the 8700 (non-overclockable version) and an h100i v2. I think that cooler is a bit much for the CPU but I hear Coffee lake runs hot with its upgrades cores...I will be running this in a masterbox lite 3.1 mATX case (which I hear SUCKS for airflow). Should I look into getting something cheaper like a 212 evo or h60 for cooling?

You should be fine with the H100i v2. I would configure it as an intake as well so you're good on air flowing through the radiator.

im using a hyper 212 evo and an i7 8700k at stock speeds, idle at 30-40, after hours on Overwatch I dont see a core touching 70C.

But im using a Corsair 570x with all fan slots used.

A CM hyper 212 or Cryorig h7 would be more than enough. An air cooler would likely provide quieter operation too.

Thanks for all the help! I ended up getting the Evo 212. With the rebate, it's only 19.99 right now so I think it will be worth it.

Princess Cadence,

I actually got the Noctua Fan with Focused Flow and SSO2 Bearing, Retail Cooling NF-F12 iPPC 3000 PWM as the intake fan and will be using the stock fan as the exhaust for the 212 Evo. Think that will be a good idea?

Thx!

Believe it or not I have a 8700k overclocked to 5 ghz 1.28vcore with a nzxt x42 v2 cooler setup as intake with another fan on the other side of the rad and at idle temps are around 23-29c at load prime 95 stess test after a few hours maxes temps around 72c

Hower if set up a few of the 8700ks and I noticed a few things. Besides your typical lottery when it comes to cpus take note of these cpus when running a water cooler.

If your liquid temp has a huge variance between cpu temp and liquid temp and u have let the cpu bake for an hour or two aka enough time for the liquid to hit it's max temp then your issue isn't the cooler. It's time for delid.

"We're assuming to the blocks properly installed and making proper contact.

If your over 15ish degrees differance between those temps a different cooler wouldn't matter it's the fact the stock past under the heat spreader isn't doing it's job..
