What would you upgrade next on my rig?

it's not worth it imho, you're just putting more stress on your GPU and having low frame rates. I personally prefer high refresh rate > resolution. In your case, a 1080Ti is more than capable of doing 100+ fps depending on what game you play. 144hz is perfect and its sooo smooth.

Looking at my signature, which is my build, what would you think I could upgrade to better 4k gaming performance? It is generally pretty good 60fps but in almost, all games its somewhat unstable, the degree just depends on the game itself, so what would you upgrade if you had my rig? I'm considering getting a new monitor as I am currently using a 4k 43" TV as my display, or possibly go for an oculus rift. Would you upgrade one of my internal specs, buy an actual gaming monitor (namely this one: http://www.microcenter.com/product/488461/Agon_AG271UG_27_IPS_4K_UHD_Gaming_LED_Monitor), or get a rift to try and jump into the VR side of things, I've never tried VR so that's something I would consider too. What would you do?

Here are my specs:

  • CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 6-Core Processor OC @ 5.0ghz
  • Cooler: Cooler Master - Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler
  • Motherboard: Asus - Prime Z370-A ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
  • Storage: Western Digital - WD Blue 1TB 2.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive
    • Samsung - 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
    • WD 4TB Black - Passport
  • RAM: Corsair Vengence RGB 2x8 RAM
  • Graphics Card: MSI - GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB Founders Edition Video Card
  • Case: Corsair Crystal 460x
  • Power Supply: Corsair - CXM 650W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-Modular ATX Power Supply
  • Operating System: Microsoft - Windows 10 Home OEM 64-bit
  • Monitor: Dell - S2417DG 23.8" 2560x1440 165Hz Monitor
  • Keyboard: Corsair K70 Mk II
  • Mouse: Corsair - SCIMITAR PRO RGB Wired Optical Mouse
  • Headphones: Bose QC 35 II - Active Noise Cancelling Headphones

I'd leave the specs as they are. I would actually get a 1440p 144hz monitor instead of a 4k monitor.

You already have a 1080 ti, and your cpu is no bottleneck at 4k. Thats the best that it gets unless you get sli

The only thing you'd want to upgrade to would be high refresh rate panels or a faster CPU if you doing stuff where you need it (not gaming, stuff like rendering, photoshop, streaming, ect.)

Gaming - Ryzen 5800X3D | 64GB 3200mhz  MSI 6900 XT Mini-ITX SFF Build

Home Server (Unraid OS) - Ryzen 2700x | 48GB 3200mhz |  EVGA 1060 6GB | 6TB SSD Cache [3x2TB] 66TB HDD [11x6TB]

Nah I just like gaming at high resolutions, but if 1440p is justifiable instead of a 4k one then I'll just go with the 144hz 1440p one
