PC Build for 1080p 144hz gaming

Hello guys,

this is my first time building a pc. I want a pc capable of playing most games at 144hz in 1080p, and AAA titles at 80-120fps at ultra. I am really confused on the CPU to go with. Here is what I have got in mind:-

CPU- Ryzen 7 1700

Motherboard- Gigabyte AB350 Gaming 3

RAM-GSkill 8x2 2333mhz

Graphics- Zotac GTX 1080 mini

Power Supply- Corsair 650W

Monitor- Asus VG248QE

Some people have suggested I go with a intel i7 8700k or a 7700K because of higher per core performance. I am really worried that the R7 1700 will become a bottleneck in games. Please help. I don't care how big of a lead intel has in fps numbers as long as the ryzen can do 144hz

i would suggest looking up benchmark videos of the 2 cpus on the games that you play and at the resolution you plan to play them at. (overall i would suggest to go with intel since i have noticed that r7 can bottleneck the highend cards at 1080p)

I would go with Intel on this one because games haven't fully embraced the multi threaded goodness of Ryzen, etc. and so they rely more on single core performance (as you stated above).

"May your frame rates be high and your temperatures low"

I misread titles/posts way too often--correct me if I don't.

Go for the 8700k if you can afford it (it seems you can) and get faster speed memory, preferably at least 2600 for intel and at least 3200 for ryzen.

Try using the PSU Tier List!

How to reset the bios/clear the cmos

My current rig:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x

Ram: 1x16gb DDR4, 2x8gb DDR4

Storage: 1tb nvme ssd

GPU: gtx 3080

Monitor: 23.8" Dell S2417DG 144hz g-sync 1440p + 27" Acer S271HL 60 Hz 1080p

Keyboard: ducky one I | I SF

Mouse: gpro wireless | glorious model o2 wireless

Sound : beyerdynamic 1990 pro | Monoprice liquid spark (amp) + topping d10 (dac)

Depending on the game and the settings, it's capable of hitting 144 FPS. If this helps, someone managed to get 500 FPS on CS:GO with it:

csgo benchmark is very deceptive. the avg doesn't mean anything. its the drops in smoke that counts. even the 1080 at 1080p drops to 80fps in smome. idk why smoke is so intensive. does it render smoke atom by atom lel
