Power Usage: GTX 1050 vs RX560

First of all, the reason I'm considering an RX is because I don't really want to give my money to Nvidia.

Just wanted to know if the power usage difference between the two is enough to warrant buying a GTX 1050 over the RX560 (!!!the full sized 1024 stream processor variant!!!), I heard they perform very similarly to one another, just worried about that power consumption and my electric bill, I'm worried It's going to skyrocket if I go for the RX

I wouldn't worry too much about the electric consumption; but you also shouldn't delude yourself, AMD is likely guilty of whatever you have against Nvidia. The 1050 is faster and would probably cost about $5/year less (assuming 4 hours/day, 365 days/year).

They both use about the same amount of power, but it depends on what card model you get, because some cards are overclocked and use more power.

They both also have the same performance.

What I have against Nvidia is the fact that their g-sync, hairworks, and phys-x technologies are proprietary as opposed to AMD's open source counterparts.

The 1050 ti is a better buy over both, its only ~$20 more.  Your electric bill is not going to skyrocket buying one over the other, a mining rig would barely increase your bill (maybe $10-50 more because its 1500w over 200w)

Try using the PSU Tier List!

I plan to get the Asus RX560, the 2G version, not O2G, seems like a reasonable clock speed

none of that matters to you when you are paying $100-$150, those technologies are usually more high end and even on amd's side, their technologies don't make much of an impact until after the rx 480 (1060 6gb on nvidia side)

You can't make use of either on a 1050 or a 560.  You'd need at least a rx 480 or a gtx 1060 6gb on either side for it to be the right price budget [IMO] (i.e: $100 rx card + $200 freesync monitor or $150 card + $400 g-sync monitor are both pointless at your price point making them unusable)

That's not what he's getting at. In his mind AMD is a saint. What he fails to realize is they're only doing that because they can't actually compete with Nvidia and need people to feel like their the more "righteous" choice. Unfortunately, AMD has a history (like all companies) of doing whatever suits their bottom line better regardless of how it affects the consumer.

Dude, I know, as I said it's a matter of principle, not whether I can run them or not, because I know I can't run them, I just don't want to contribute my money towards these business practices nvidia is doing, not for me, but for everybody else, specially since (even though it's only the higher end ones) they flat-out forbade factory OC

No, that's not what I'm saying don't put words in my mouth, I'm not saying AMD is a saint, I'm just saying I don't like where nvidia is heading, simple as that.

^^ buy the 1050, it has better performance and the same power draw, get the 1050ti if you want 4gb vram and better performance for $20 more

You don't like where Nvidia is heading, but AMD will do the exact same things as soon as they get back on their feet. Now they just have no choice but to play the nice guy because they simply can't compete in terms of performance. You only hurt yourself by buying an inferior product.

as long as neither card has an external power connector they both should fall somewhere around 60-70watts maximum.  for reference even my itx build I just did with a g4600 pentium and 1050ti that has the external 6 pin still only pulls around 83 watts total system power drawn from he wall unless I turn up the power limit.  Just gaming on most modern cards dont really use that much power.  My rx480 pulls around 100 watts most of the time, but I have seen it push up towards 200 watts when benching at high voltages and speeds.  Doing something like mining eth will also push the cards pretty hard as well, but the 1050 and 560 will be power limited to 75 watts by the interface.

Don't get a video card right now, wait for the bitcoin/eth crash that is going to happen soon so you can get one much cheaper.

Not with the way countries are banning them from exchanges worldwide, if the US hops on this bandwagon then crypto will probably be done for good.
