New build - pushed back until now

Hey there, I posted back in autumn or so with a build plan. I was pushing it back since then, but now I actually have to do it so probably buying next week or so.

 

I will be doing all sorts of stuff on it (3D modeling, video rendering, even running linux VM sometimes) but to be frank, at least 60% of its work will be gaming. I will be also buying a monitor (thinking 1440p high refresh rate) to use together with 1080p 60Hz monitor I currently use. Other then that I have all the accessories I need.

I already have Windows 10 and the NZXT Kraken x62 (Friend bought it, but then used other, because he couldn't fit it into his case - So he sold it to me for cheap). I was also going with clearer build - I'm trying not to have to many colours except for white and black. My price range is about 2100$ on pcpartpicker - (in reality 50000CZK)

Hi there!

 

I like the choice of NVMe storage for your uses, however I definitely recommend you going up to a Ryzen 7 1700. I was going to make a Threadripper build for you even. To compensate, I can say that you don't really need the Kraken X62 in there, Ryzen isn't a great overclocker anyway even if you push voltages - an air cooler will be fine. I'd go -Kraken X62 -Ryzen 1600 +Cryorig H5 Universal +Ryzen 1700

Nah no point getting a 1900X since it's also 8 cores. You did try though, I commend you for that.

NVME is faster if you can use the speed, but I'd consider spending the extra $20 and getting the 960 EVO.

If you don't need the speed, you can get a 1.1TB MX500 for an extra $60.

 

Either way I'd compare the WD Black to other NVME drives. I seem to remember it not doing as well as even cheaper offerings.

Why would you ever recommend that weird overpriced thing? The 7820X costs less... And the 1920X is the minimum for TR to make sense.

960 EVO is 70$ more here, which I really don't think is reasonable to spend...

I think I can squeeze 1700 inside and since I plan overclocking anyway I don't think I will lose even single core performance...

I like the build but the 1070ti seems a bit overpriced. Try and find one that is sub 500 otherwise you might as well get the 1080.

It's not that, it's just that you can usually get tier 1 PSUs in the same capacity for that price. And 550W should be plenty for a Ryzen 8 core and a 1080

I looked and the best I can get is ASUS 1070Ti Advanced (slightly higher clock) for approximately 80$ less then the cheapest blower style 1080 or 130$ for an MSI 1080 with three fan cooler

Well damn, seems like due to other circumstances and disappearance of the reason I though I would have to build now this build is getting pushed in the future again... so expect me to be posting a about 4 or 5 months again

Thats good, just wouldnt pick the mini 1080 size card if your not buiding a small form PC. The cooling on that thing is a bit limited.

Perhaps one more question I have is whether or not wait. Because while all I see is the advice to wait, it wouldn’t be longer then until may for me. While having the computer now would be an advantage  (and pleasure) it is not by any means required right now

 

(so simply buy now, or wait and buy in may)
