Hello,

On Monday I am going back to the UK and have ordered a new motherboard that will be shipped to there.

I was planning to leave my old mobo in Italy, but that means that I will have to carry RAM and CPU outside of the computer (planning to keep them in their original packaging - for the CPU, just the small plastic part, not the whole box).

As I cannot find any rubbing/isopropyl alcohol here, I have ordered a cleaning product from Arctic which will be shipped with the new mobo. Do you think it is a problem if I leave the thermal paste on the CPU for about a day before cleaning it off?

Sorry for the newbish question but I have never cleaned thermal paste before. Also, do you think I risk to bind the CPU pins by keeping it in its plastic box and packed between clothes, should I keep it with me in my jacket pocket?

no, not a problem exept that its going to end up everywhere the top of the CPU touches. id whipe it of with just some paper first, should get most of it and then you can use the artic stuff once you pick it up

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Personally, I just rub the old paste off with a paper towel.

And no solvent?

I highly doubt it. I took the cooler off my Core i5 750 and just left everything exposed without cleaning off the paste...it was just sitting there for weeks, and I just wiped it off with isopropyl alcohol. I don't think it'll dry out.
