how to hook up xbox to pc

Yeasman

I have an xbox 360 that id like to hook up to one of my pc monitors, however although im running the monitors from a hdmi cable, there are no speakers thus no audio. Is there a way i can run a usb cable to my pc and then use my pc as a "harbor"  that i can pass audio and image through ? Like some kind of mod for my xbox. thx !

Do your monitors offer audio pass-through? Most monitors with HDMI that I've seen have output ports (3.5mm) that pass through HDMI audio.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

The only way to do this is to hook up the 360 to an HDMI capture device.

Your question is confusing. If you want to connect the Xbox to your PC for image pass through, you need a capture card. If you just want to pass the audio through your PC, you can do so depending on your Xbox 360 version. The S version had S/PDIF and E version has 3.5 mm jack for this purpose.

you could pickup an older home theatre surround unit that has hdmi passthru (soundbars can have this too)

this setup then is 360 hdmi to soundbar/theatre then hdmi to tv

Then he can run a 3.5mm cable from the audio out there into the audio in on his motherboard's integrated sound. That what I used to do with my 360 (though it was over VGA since I bought one of the early models that couldn't output to HDMI),
