I’m just wondering your thoughts of getting a second hand gaming pc.

Depends on what is inside really. At least it's better than buying mining parts or some office PCs because old gaming rigs are usually better maintained.

This and depends vastly on the seller. Is he trustworthy and/or has a good reputation? If possible, go inspect and test for functionality and stability.

There are several factors to think about.

Pros:

Cheaper

Faster to buy

 

Cons:

No warranty

Not a trusted seller

No refunds (depends on the seller and the website)

Weigh these factors out and see if it's worth it. If not, buy a cheapo PC in your country's main computer retailer (In spain we have pccomponentes.com)
